Just another ordinary day, just that I am happy Seeing Garry posting and on his way to recovery!
No seafood for me, please. I am not much into crabs, lobsters, oysters and clams. Leave met out when it comes to caviar and octopus as well! My favourite animal protein says "mooh", although I don´t mind the occasional fish ´n chips or tunafish in various forms. Yessurree, I am a confessing beefeater and I don´t give a (beep - expletive, deleted) for the carbon footprint! As my late FIL used to say, beef is the best vegetable there is! I like mine as a steak, medium-rare, a typical German beef roll ("Roulade") or an Austrian "Tafelspitz". I also don´t turn down a good hamburger!

I haven’t checked on the LEGO designer program in years but last I checked (like 3 or 4 years ago...) you could still download the program and use it but no longer order custom sets through it. I don’t know if the program will still work on Windows 10 and other newer operative systems.

well we lost our oldes guinea pig this afternoon. She was 6.
We had a feeling something has not been right with her for a while. Sunday she started having fluid build up and labored breathing. Took her to the vet yestrday and got some medicine. we made the decision this morning when she would not eat to take her back this afternoon to have her put to sleep. Luckily for us and her we dod not have to make that decision. She died peacfully in her sleep this afternon.

They are painting up ten in total. Can't wait for one to come to the coast. These brutes are pretty big for my tiny layout but if Jason builds them, I will buy them even though I am a steam guy. They are beautiful!

I love all seafood, living on the coast it is always freshly caught and right into the restaurants. The kid in Ottawa didn't believe our 100-mile rule. That is where the quality drops substantially the further inland you go, so we don't usually eat it once we get a 100 miles inland. He goes for sushi with his friends in Ottawa but can't wait to get some when he gets home, huge difference. That being said, the steak is way better in Alberta than on the coast. On the big island of Hawaii the steak is incredible as they have some large cattle ranches there. We went to a restaurant right on a ranch on Hawaii and it was soooo good.

Henry, there was a guy on one of the FB pages that recently took a Rocky Mountaineer trip and bought some Rocky mountaineer coaches and an engine made by Rapido. I think he bought one in the gift shop and the rest online.
Man, it is sure raining today and for the last three days. I want to take the pool down but it keeps filling up, pools phooey!
Time to get the ice rink ready just in case we get a cold snap this year.
I hope we get a cold snap when the kid is home from Ottawa, makes an old man not feel so old when he can still body check his kid into the weeds.
BATMANecently took a Rocky Mountaineer trip and bought some Rocky mountaineer coaches and an engine made by Rapido.
Only the engine was in the current catalog. It looks like Rapido made passenger cars in the past in the old paint scheme. The 40-2 was $159 CA so I guess not DCC, but there was no mention one way or the other.

We had our tree guy over today and took down nine trees! The odd weather behavior is killing off quite a few trees around us. It is looking like we won't have any nice fall color again this year, either

Happening in the mid-Alantic too. In Virginia there is a Chinese Ash borer killing ash trees, big trees dying on my sons' property, arborist say they are stressed and wants $200 to test the soil and in my neighborhood a bunch of arborviitaes are dying. We are actually about average for rain, a little higher for temperature, but no run of miserably hot weather

You would never have made it in our house when our kids were young. They loved seafood so it was served frequently. One of their favourites was a mixed seafood dish that had all kinds of tiny previously squiggly bits in it. The boys would hang out in the kitchen when mom was making the dish and steal all the tiny squid and whatever else they could get out of the bowl before it was mixed with the Alfredo sauce. Half of it would be gone before we even sat down! Leftovers, if any, wouldn't last two hours! Normally our boys were fairly restrained eaters. They would both always leave a small portion of their meals on their plates instead of stuffing themselves. Not so with the seafood!
We have a seafood speciality store just around the corner. It is run by Portuguese people and caters to the large local Portuguese population. Their assortment of fresh seafood is amazing.

Dave - my son loved to eat deep fried octopus rings, fish burgers, mussels and other stuff I don´t even dare to look at. My wife made that for him only when I was on a business trip and gone for a few days. The classic seafood is also not native here, we don´t have lobsters, crabs, oysters and the like, just those tiny North Sea shrimps, which I actually do like.

We each have our own favourite dishes, and then some that we hate! When I was a kid my mother served liver and onions regularly. I liked the taste but it would go through me immediately with dire consequenses. Something about being able to defecate through the eye of a needle at 40 feet!! My parents never seemed to notice the negative effects it had on me. Ugh!! I've never quite forgiven them for that!
Dave - my mother hated everything that comes from the sea. She never ate it, but forced us to eat what she half-heartedly had cooked up. I developed an allergic reaction to the taste and the smell of seafood, which gave me a hard time when I was in Japan. I learned to eat a few things because I had no choice then, but even today, I would not order fish in a restaurant if it is not either deep fried, tuna or salmon. In our town, you will have a hard time finding anything else but frozen fish. We have a weekly farmer´s market where you can buy fresh (?) fish fromn a fishmonger, but I don´t trust this guy.
I think I will remain a steak and schnitzel man!

My mother loved liver and onions. In fact later in life she got it into her head that it was the healthiest meal going so she served it every couple of days! My dad would eat anything as long as it had ketchup on it so he didn't care. Then they had some blood tests done and the doctor couldn't figure out why their iron levels were through the roof, almost to the point of being toxic! My mom would believe anything that she read! "Liver was good for you!!!" Darn near killed the both of them!
The good thing is that my mother is the reason that I learned to be a reasonably good cook. Her cooking skills were limited to say the least, and I figured that there had to be a better way.
What ticks me off now is that my back is so bad that I can't stand long enough to make a whole meal. Ten years ago I was doing most of the cooking. Now I'm not able to do my share. To make things worse, I have had to stop taking one of my back pain medications because it was messing with my depression big time! Now I can hardly move.

I have been married 31 years, and I have always been the primary cook in the kitchen. Funny thing is, sine we had the kitchen remodel completed, my wife always refers to it as "her kitchen", but she does not cook any more often!
Back in New England, fish was plentiful and cheap. That's not true here in Delaware. I used to get fresh, live lobster for as little as $4 a pound, but it's about $18 a pound here. Scallops are the same price everywhere.
Diabetes has greatly curtailed my diet, cutting not only sweets, which I ate little of anyway, but basics like bread, rice, beans, pasta and potatoes. It's not bad at home, where my deprivation diet has become normal, but finding something acceptable at a restaurant can be impossible. I usually enjoy myself and just double up on the insulin.
It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.
Good afternoon from the sunny West Coast. Environment Canada says mostly sunny for the next four days so I will go hop on the Deere and get started on the rather long grass that is a result of all our rain.
We have a few places where we buy fish right off the boat when they come in. Can't beat fresh Salmon on the barbie. Of course when I use to fish a lot, bringing home a 30 pounder always meant having lots of friends over. Sometimes I would give my Mom a couple of salmon and she would can them for me and I had plenty of salmon sandwiches for work for the next year.
I can cook quite well, but my wife's Dad was an executive chef at some pretty hoity-toity places in his career and my wife inherited her Dads cooking abilities that's for sure so she does most of the cooking.
I once had a reaction from eating sushi several nights in a row. My forearms broke out in blisters and so I went to the Doctor and the first thing he asked was had I been eating raw fish? We had a long conversation about where to get the best sushi in Greater Vancouver and he ended up telling me he has had 5 ambulance rides himself from bad food allergies reactions.
Ed, that cherry picker looks ideal for taking down trees. I think I will see if the rental shop has one next time I have a tree that needs to come down. We had a big die-off of Cedar trees over the last few years. We lost three in the back that were 4' plus in diametre. I just had someone come and fall them and then limbed and bucked them up myself. The city comes and grinds up the branches and the friends take the firewood.
I had many times this pile to deal with, the bigger branches were 8 to 10 inches in diametre. It was about a 1000' round trip to the curb and back, the John Deere did provide yeoman service.
Speaking of The Rocky Mountaineer, Wade the guy in this video is a family member that gave us the overnight Rocky Mountaineer trip to Whistler. He is a train manager.
