This is aggravating me. I hate not being the principle in charge of a project. It seems like I spent 4-5 hours each day yesterday and today waiting for other people to make the obvious decisions.
This has given me ample time to visit the diner.

Left w..k early and took a nap this afternoon. I feel much better now. Spent time on the layout tonight painting foam on the risers and finishing ditches. Getting a little done each evening is better than trying to blitz stuff.
Kevin - i feel your fustration. One of the things that really turned me off with modern pro racing is the sheer amount of time wasted waiting for the engineering staff to make a decision and put out a job list so the mechs can get to it. I was brought up in different times when we (the mechanics) actually had input as to what was needed. Watching the team stand around until 10 or 11 at night and then be given a 4 hour job list just wound me right up. The engineers then would head off to the hotel while the crew worked. Of course said crew was back on the job at 7am the next morning no matter how late they worked the night before. I also firmly believe this is how many mistakes happen as people get fatigued.
With the modern prototypes we run now, we frequently employ an engineer but have been careful to get one that is a team player. Ok. Rant over. Anyway better luck next week Kevin.

Weekend! Normally, folks love weekends - time to relax, time for the family and time to take care of the house and the yard! Well, I don´t like weekends, but for a different reason. Weekends are the noisiest time in the place where I live. Kids visiting their fathers, little feet stomping up and down the stairs all the time, yelling, screaming all day long. No respect for the elderly, no consideration for their need of peace and quiet! Yes, I am turning into a grumpy old man! Time to get out here, but I am afraid there will be a further delay. I don´t thing we will be out here much before Summer 2020.
Kevin - I am with you on not being in control of things and having to wait for some nitwit to decide. I have waisted half of my life in waiting for people who must have had mechanical brains not well-lubed!

Good morning. Bacon, eggs, hashbrowns, and black coffee. Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day. Forget dessert. Just more coffee.
Won't get much accomplished today. Have to drive to the city (1½ hours away) to babysit for the youngest two grandchildren.
I imagine it will include riding tricycles, getting Happy Meals at McDonalds, watching a Disney princess movie, reading 4,200 books at bedtime, and falling asleep on the couch. It's great!

We are still grieving over Sparkie. Wife is lossing it, when it was 3:30 PM today she lost it. 3:30 PM was feeding time for Sparkie. I am holding up better today except for when Sue losing it.
Far as Sparkie on the RIP listing? I would not mind but is it really appropriate?
Mulch Tip At Lowes if there is a bag of mulch that has a rip in it ask them to bag it in a Recovery Bag. Besides putting in the bag you get it for half price. Same trick works for damaged foam that I used on the layout.

Afternoon all, it's another perfect day out West.
The kid and I are going into Vancouver to the WhiteCaps game (soccer) I think we are playing Washington DC today. We have front row, dead centre field tickets so it should be great though our team is terrible this year. This is only the second game we have made this year as there has been so much going on.

Ya, it is a pretty rare occurrence. There were only two surgeons in Vancouver that had done them and both were in the O/R with him. We were worried about his speach being affected but there was no change whatsoever. He is delighted with the results. You never could tell he had this huge tongue unless he stuck it out. 1% of people are born with remnants of fish gills, that is more common than tails and tongues, makes for interesting reading on genetics. It is amazing how many things from humans distant relatives crop up from time to time. I learned a lot going through the process. Researchers took DNA samples from my wife and I when he was a baby, never did hear what came from that. Something about recessive genes that was above my high school pay grade.
Saw a thing online about flat Earthers so tuned in to watch. The one guy was saying the Earth was flat but Mars was round. When the interviewer ask how he knew that Mars was round the guy said "because they have pictures of it and it is round!" No wonder the world is in the mess it is.
TF I hope you get to fix the boxcar. I have been watching a series called "PLANESAVERS" on You-Tube, it is quite popular. I think you could start a "TRAINSAVERS" show, that would be cool.
Went out for Greek at our favourite waterfront Greek restaurant on Wednesday night. Watched the sunset over the Pacific and two trains went by on the BNSF line that runs up to Vancouver. The track runs between the restaurant and the ocean. It was a good two train night.
My wife lost her appetite and I ate her roast lanb as well as my own along with all the wine. Last night we had a crowd in and I had another bottle of red and then some white. I am up six pounds that will be gone by Tuesday. Booze is the only thing that puts pounds on me. I'll probably go a couple of weeks before I indulge again, I really don't drink booze that often.
Kevin and JR, bureaucracy is a fickle thing. I remember I would get asked to mind the store at the airport on weekends or stat holidays. Of course they would also have a Supervisor and a Superintendant just because I was there. Things had to go up the chain of command don't ya know. They were always trying to get me to take a promotion to Superintendent which I had no interest in doing. One day I was talking to the director for Western Canada and ask him why I could make decisions as a Superintendent but not as a front line worker especially when you are trying to promote me to Superintendent, do I know less as a front line guy I asked? The very next time I was asked to mind the store on a stat holiday I was told I was in charge and told to keep Ottawa apprised of anything important. This became policy and the Government saved a bundle by not paying lower management overtime to watch whoever was on do nothing or very little on stat holidays.
Time to shower and head into Vancouver.

Yes I have been Muy Busy, I'll be reading through the past few pages to get back up to speed.
So basically last Saturday was my first day off in 19 days! Yeah! 65 hours and change last pay period!
I'm now searching for secondary employment once again, I began driving my truck again but I have had to stop due to more issues that have cropped up. I'm car shopping now, looking towards a Ford panther platform car like a Crown Vic, Gran Marquis, Town Car, or Marauder, price is good, mpg is decent, reliable, parts are cheap, and insurance should be cheaper.
The Y, yeah still there, talked to my boss about a raise or a promotion, both were no due to it being up to metro and not her, she said to wait till the end of the year and try for a raise, she is very impressed by my performance so far and said I have a future and will move up just not now.
Ohh so the lovely Sydney is now single, boyfriend dumped her via phone with an excuse equally as poor as his choice of method, I asked if she wanted to grab ice cream as a good will measure, she assumed it was a date, when I clarified that I was being a friend right now, she now knew I was being innocent for the time being, she opened up about what shes going through, I was supportive, she cried a little and I tried to comfort her, thought that I was in the clear, three days later she is "aggravated" with me for "making" her cry at work which is "unprofessional" which not sure why, no one saw her crying except me, and I was nothing but a friend, how is it my fault? I didn't force her to talk about the breakup? I was talking about my own stupidity and she takes off on the whole water works thing, I really don't know what her deal is.
I'll be her friend if she wants but I'm not going to try anymore.
I figured out my problem with dating, I try to dang hard, when theres a girl I'm interested in I get nervous so I try to hard and it scares them off, so now I'm trying to be passive and see what happens.
Listening to some new music lately, half•alive dropped their album "Now, Not Yet" which has a few good songs on it and my new favorite band Red Hearse dropped their album like two days ago, every song on the album is a great tune, give it a listen!

Being a teenager can be tough. You are right to try to be a little more laid back. I wouldn't give up on Sydney just yet. Being dumped is hard to take for her just like anybody else. She may have reacted badly to you, but at least she was open about her feelings. That might be a good sign, or not.
I hope that you maintain your faith in yourself Steven. You are a good person. The right lady will come along.

It´s Sunday! The only day in the week for me to have a hearty breakfast, albeit a virtual one! Make that my usual fare of crisp fried bacon, scrambled eggs, toast, butter and assorted jams and marmelade, a stack of pancakes w/syrup, OJ and, foremost, lots of coffee, Brunhilda, if you please!
It´s a wet day - as usual in this time if the year. In my childhood days, half of the summer school break was wet, and the other half nice. Mid August till 1st week of September was the wet part. The climate hasn´t changed at all. It is not at all warmer in this neck of the woods, despite the few day it was hot this year.
Young Steven - take it from an old man don´t even try to understand the young lady. Woman have a very different rational, a lot more emotional than us boys. Just relax, don´t push it. She´ll come around if she feels that way. If not, well, other moms have pretty daughters as well!
Steam engines required an enourmous amount of service and maintenance, which finally caused their demise. In the advent of the Diesel locomotives, it became more and more difficult for railroads to recruit the people for the hard and dirty work of servicing steam engines. People preferred "cleaner" jobs and higher pay and so it was no wonder, that steam engines disappeared quite quicly after the Diesels had proven to be not only more economical, but also more reliable. By 1960, steam was mostly gone in the US, but in war-torn Europe, it lasted a little longer. In communist European countries, steam became obsolote as late as the 1980s.

The counterweights were a lot more to it than I thought. The flat weights had another semicircular layer of more substantial weights on the outside. These attach to the back of the crane so the weight is not just on the trailer, it counterbalances the boom.

Wife is keeping it togeather way better today. This is day 3 with out Sparkie. Yesterday she broke down to uncontable crying. Today she found a American Eskimo she thought she wanted.
There are 3 kinds of a American Eskimo.
1 Standred 24 to 34 pounds.
2 Miniature 12 to 18 pounds. Sparkie was a Miniature.
3 Toy 6 to 10 pounds.
One she wanted till I ponited out the fine print he is a standred and he weight 32 pounds, Sparkie was 16 pounds when we got him. She got over that idea pretty quick.
Visit Dwight our next door neighbor at the nurising home today. Mary our neighbor that lost her husband last month was all so there. Joe and Mary lived across the street. We enjoyed visting with them both.
Ran the Mighty CB&Q F7's tonight. They had been on the RIP track for a few months. One of the ABA consist needed oiling and I was not sure which one. Ran them with out sound and it is the leaded A unit. I will get her oiled after work Monday.

My old tools would have a new purpose and I would walk around with a big smile on my face loving my craft again.
After 35 years of carpentry, starting from basic and developing fine tuned skills over the years. Putting those skills towards something more rewarding and fun would be really nice.
Well... people have done stranger things when they set their mind to it.
