I just purchased a Walthers N scale 5-unit double stack car set and I want to change the wheel sets for metal ones. Im not sure what size they are and the best company to go with.
Welcome to the forum ... your early posts will be moderated and that accounts for the big delay (many of the Kalmbach staff were out for a train show). If you're still here, the answer can be a little complicated. Many high-capacity modern cars take 36" wheelsets, but some intermodal equipment (and earlier cars) use 33" wheelsets (and some other oddball sizes on spine cars and auto carriers). Measuring with calipers and converting to scale dimensions is one way to know for sure what are on your cars.
Intermountain is one company that offers replacement metal wheelsets in N scale.

Not my era but I think you are dealing with two different sizes on that set. The inner truck wheels are 36 and outer are 33". I read that on the Internet so it must be true.
A cheap pair of calipers from harbor freight are a useful tool anyway and plenty accurate for this hobby.
