Couplers
Posted by Bailout on Sunday, June 23, 2019 10:51 PM
I’m running 3 different N gauge Bachman Locomotives. Ordered a set of 3 Dapol passenger cars from Hattons in London, England. The couplers are at different heights! Any suggestions? Thank you. Bailout

Hello All,

Welcome Welcome to The Forums.

A few questions answered will help those in the know to better answer your query...

Thank you for clarifying the scale and the manufacturers of the motive power and rolling stock along with the type- -freight versus passenger!

What kinds of locomotives, Steam or diesel?

Type or class...2-4-2, GP40, etc.?

...Hattons in London, England.

Are you in the U.K.?

I would suggest purchasing a coupler height gage. These should be available where you purchase your train stock.

There are many different ways of adjusting coupler height on rolling stock.

Adjusting the coupler height on locomotives can get a bit tricky, more so on steam than on diesel.

If you can provide the above information those in the know can assist.

Hope this helps.

Welcome

.

If you are in Europe, these might have the big boxy "rapido" style couplers. When I was in N gauge they were the standard coupler in the USA for ready to run equipment.

.

Height mismatch was always a problem.

.

Their is no easy way to adjust coupler height on truck mounted couplers. Converting everything to Micro-Trains trucks and couplers was the solution for me.
