Proto 2000 GP-9 and older Shell swap
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, January 3, 2005 11:42 AM
I hope this is the right place to post this! Please forgive me if it's not.

I am looking to keep my Grandson's interest up in my Model Railroad, and one way I know I can grab him is to add SOUND to the layout.

By the looks of things, he knows what a Diesel Loco sounds like and likes the horns and bells.

With that in mind, I think I like what I see with the Proto 2000 GP-9 with QSI Sound. Looks like most places are out of the ones I would like, so this leads me down this path.

Will the Proto 2000 GP-7 Shell fit on the GP-9 chassis?
Has anyone tried this?

Any help in this would be very helpful in me making my decision to buy!

Thanks,

Chris

You EVIL EVIL person! [:D]

I had not even thought of this until you brought it up - thus saving myself a LOT of money. But I have 3 GP-7's for my road, and if the shells do INDEED fit on the new GP-9 with sound mechanisms, I may have to rethink things. Unless of course they do a new run of GP-7's with the sound decoders...

Randy,

Wel that is what I was thinking too! I have a Sante Fe GP-7 Zebra Stripe that my Grand Son LOVES to watch running around the layout, must be the contrast or something. Having on-board Sound would blow the little fellow away!
