I'll be in Richmond, VA in a few days, for a few days. Other than Tiny Tim's in Ashland, any other hobby shops in the Richmond area or places to rail fan?

I've only been to Richmond once. I didn't go to an LHS, but to the Stone brewery. There was a Conrail line close by, so we sat there drinking beer and watching trains.

Tiny Tim's is a cute place, but the emphasis is on O scale and toys. Very little HO, and the prices are steep.
On the plus side, the staff is always very friendly, and they are great ambassadors for the hobby, just no reason for scale modelers to go out of the way to get there.

Yes... I crossed the road and ate at the "Trackside Diner". Ate a good burger and watched trains go by. Not a bad way to spend an hour or two.
There are a couple of Hobbytowns in Richmond. I had been in the south location and they had some trains- more than some other hobbytowns that I had seen but not a real great selection. Not sure about the north location. Kevin what is your route up to Richmond?- If you should happen to pass close to Danville VA I would like to give you an invitation to visit the club here. We meet on Monday and Thursday nights. (we could probably arrange another time during the day too.) If you are going through the Hampton Roads area there are a couple of shops in Virginia Beach.

Pass on the Hobbytown on the north side (Broad Street). It's not worth it. Focus your energy on railfanning instead (Ashland, Triple crossing, etc.).

I have had to cancel all my planned trips to Virgnia in 2019. There are too many things going on in Tennessee this year.
I also had to cancell all but one trip to North Carolina. I guess only one visit to the Little Choo Choo shop in Spencer will be on the schedule.
Hopefully once all the nonsense in Nashville and Chattanooga settles down, I can get back to normal in 2020 and make it back to Roanoke and Richmond, and maybe even a trip up to Winchester.
