Sunday night locals
Posted by emdmike on Sunday, May 26, 2019 9:00 PM

For picture fun tonight, lets see your local freights. Lots of progress to be made on my layout, along with Kato HO Unitrak upgrades. But I have enough done to run my local.   Here we catch NYS&W UT-1 pulling up to dog food plant in Sherburne, NY.

and finally — they head for home.

It wasn't my layout, but this was my local, the Grape Creek Turn, last time I operated on my friend Rick Schroeder's Danville & Western. It typically runs about 30 cars of coal, crushed stone, and general merch traffic and takes a whole 3-hour ops session to get back to the yard.

Here I am in the middle of another creative runaround move, several of which are usually required to avoid a real mess given siding lengths, etc. The requirement to block the returning loads and MTs per destination was recently dropped. Wink Too many crews died on the clock, I think. Embarrassed

OK, got the standard gauge thing done, now for narrowgauge...Smile

Here's 454 in charge of the Cascade Local, crossing the Rio de las Animas after leaving Silverton.

Later at Purgatory, the Cascade Local prepares to head out of town over Lime Creek Gulch once it passes the stone mill.

I like that Goose flying behind the train! Is it a kit or something!

I missed this last night, but here is the Plattsburgh local, D11, switching the GP mill in Plattsburgh.

And doing yardwork in Plattsburgh yard.

I really gotta get a RS-3 for the local so the GP38-2 can go on road freight duty.

Great locals guys,

Ed,You better tell that flag to get to the proper distance from the cabin or is he short flagging?

Great photo! I likes.

Thanks! It's a 1/72 Grumman Gosling (or Widgeon) by AirFix (or Sword or Czech Model.) Since the Gosling was essentially a smaller Goose, it works well as a HO scale Goose.
