Little help finding one of Cody's articles
Posted by Chips88 on Monday, April 8, 2019 10:35 AM

Ladies/Gents -  I am looking for an article written by Cody Grivno where he was showing us how to ballast and completely cover a yard in sand.  I believe he had an old photo of an ATSF yard out in California as an example.  I also remember he was using Smith Sons Ballast.  I can't remember if it was in "Model Railroader" or one of the special issues.  Can anyone help me?

I see many references to MR Video Plus series where Cody showed some ballasting techniques:

I also remember he was using Smith Sons Ballast.

I live about a half-mile from where Harley and Dale Smith had their ballast buisness and layout. Sadly both are now deceased. Scenic Express carried their ballast for a while. Arizona Rock & Mineral is one of the best sources for real stone ballast. Even Highball is long gone.

Here's a look at the C&NW Proviso yard outside Chicago.
