I have found a whole new catagory the Steamliner. Being born in 1968 I did not get to experience Steam or the transistion to Deisel Electrics.
I have become really infatuated with Otto Kuhler's Southern Railroad 4-6-2 locomotive 1380. I find that to be the most beautiful locomotive I've ever seen only second to Lehigh Valley's 4-6-2 locomotive 2089. I have found this locomotive was made by Weaverly in "O" gauge but did anyone ever make one in "HO"? I have found BLI makes some Steamliners but did they ever make either of these? And if so where would you find one? Other than EBAY is there anyplace to look?
I figured the Model Railroader Community might have the answers.

Just be glad you don't have to press "2" for English.

I like the lines of the Southern 4-6-2. I'm still partial to the Dreyfuss Hudson though:

Perhaps the recent Bachmann offering may interest you? More Raymond Loewy than Otto Kuhler:

With a little body putty and styrene you could come up with a kitbashed Steamliner.
The Santa Fe "Blue Goose" was offered by AHM/Rivarossi some years ago. If you found one of those on the secondary market that would also fit the bill.
Good Luck, Ed
I have always been rather partial to the New Haven RR's I-5 4-6-4 streamliner (the only streamlined steam enigne in New England):https://www.classicstreamliners.com/lo-nh-i-5-class-4-6-4.html
When they first arrived on the NH in 1937, a old head engineer came into the roundhouse and saw one for the first time. His stunned reaction? "Well, don't that look like Fred Astaire."BLI has made this model in HO as well as NJ/Custom Brass and W&R. Weaver made it in O-scale.
The NH 4-6-4 is a handsome one, Paul, and I thought BLI did a nice job with those. Weren't they brass-hybrids, also?

OOOPS! That would be me. I'll double check from now on. I thought it was OK. I made the OP's link into a picture.
Mike.
EDIT: OK, I just opened the picture again, and right on the bottom is the copyright.

Dave,
That's the excact model I was looking to find!! But the price seems really high. Is that normal for Brass models? It looks like Ajin Percision made it and that Overland Models imported it. Is this a really good model or is it the rareity the reason that it is priced as it is? Or is this just what brass locomotives cost? Having never owned one I know nothing of this market.
Also the same questions for the Southern. Made by D&D and imported by Percision Scale Co. Since the prices were close I'm guessing rarity and not the quality of the model.
Also I am trying to get my set converted over to DCC so I'd have to add the decoder and sound. But that's a whole other conversation in the DCC Forum.
Thanks...Johnny J
Ed,
While Loewy had nice designs I really like the bullet nose design . Even B&O Railroad's Royal Blue has a nice design. I remember seeing an inverted bathtub style of the early NYC commedore as a toy. As a kid I remember thinking this isn't a train! Where did they come up with this crazy idea. Little did I know but 30 years later as an adult I would find out it was a locomotive. I had only ever seen EMD's. I even bought an N gauge ALCO locomotive with D&RGW colors thinking...well it's not quite right but will do because of the colors. Now I love it! How our tastes change over time.
Johnny
They did make them in HO once upon a time by a company name Rivarossi. You can still found some of them on Ebay but they can be expensive. More recent once would be MTH, BLI and Bachmann

Hi, Johnny
You can read about Carl F. Kantola and his designs as he applied them to New York Central locomotives here:
https://nycshs.files.wordpress.com/2014/07/pages-from-1981q3.pdf
He worked closely with the Case School of Applied Science in Cleveland, Ohio in 1934. Many of the design features that were credited to the young Henry Dreyfuss were actually worked out by Carl and his boys.
The War years weren't always very kind to streamlined locomotives:

Please do not forget the ATSF Valley Flyer.
Weaver product from my blog
I had never seen ATSF'S Valley Flyer or the CNJ'S Blue Comet that were on your website. Very beautiful! But since they were made by Weaver are were they in O gauge?
Wow you were right about the price. Do you know if they were $575 or more originally or if this is a price due to rarity? The set is amazing just what I was looking to find. I don't know anything about Rivarossi and it looks like they got bought out by Hornsby and don't produce any longer if I read that correctly.
tstage,Yep, these NH I-5's were BLI Hybrids and BLI All-Brass. They came out very nice indeed. These models are superior to the NJ/CB and W&R models (and have DCC/Sound). BLI even did a second run of the Hybrids with rubber driver tires (tho' honestly, they really don't need them; I pull a dozen passenger cars with my 1st run model)...and I think the 2nd run has smoke, too.

For Ho i think IHC makes a semi streamline ATSF valley flyer 4-6-2.
