2019's April Fooler [SPOILERS]
Posted by Steven Otte on Tuesday, March 5, 2019 11:37 AM

If you want to discuss the April Fool's joke in the April 2019 issue, please do it here. Don't spoil it for people who like to find it for themselves by posting elsewhere.

Devil (Here There Be Spoilers) Angry

This year's Fooler was a team effort. The basic idea came from Hal Miller, I did the artwork and the basic info, and Cody Grivno fleshed it out.

I honestly thought the Tide Pods meme was dead until I opened the 2019 April issue. Indifferent No offense intended, but I honestly had a bit of an eyeroll reaction when I saw it.

Although if it actually was possible to weather a locomotive in a washing machine... I'd do it. Stick out tongue

Well, at the time of writing no one posted the April 2019 April's Fool Joke, and I won't spoil it either at now except to say it's somewhat eye-catching and had me thinking this is absurb, can't be real, how would that even work. Alas, the link in the last line too obviously revealed the joke.

(I could actually see 'Tubers like MarklinOfSweden developing something like this...)

Funny, I just mentioned in the "Diner" thread that no one has commented on the 2019 Fooler.

Well, here it is Big Smile

My first thought on seeing the article was, "You gotta be kidding me!"  Then I remembered it is the April issue.  Superb April Fools Gents.Cowboy

Nicely done, but really, how would it work? I like the April fools that are harder to figure out.

Steve, I was only trying to reduce and reuse threads by reviving the previous April's Fool thread (which didn't have a year in the title at the time).
The image of the "weathering color" (vs the orignal red/blue) Tide pod reminded me of the paint blobs that the weathering 'Tubers squeeze out on their pallets before mixing and diluting (like the aforementioned MarklinOfSweden guy) - the resulting liquid is splotted or sprayed/spritzed on items like stone walls or mountain landscapes. Not certain how the interior of the dishwasher would turn out after the scenerio described in the joke, but the 'do not eat' statement in the copy definitely derailed the effort some.

chutton01, I split the threads because I thought people might be confused at two pages of discussion of last year's Fooler, without a date, before mention of the new one.

The "Do not eat" advisory is a master stroke.

The ultimate April Fool's Day joke for MR would be to have no joke at all - and then have us all straining to out-do each other in finding something outlandish about perfectly reasonable and accurate articles.

I just received my April issue last night and saw it.  Of course I totally forgot the yearly MR April fools joke would be somewhere in the magazine.  Thanks to everyone at MR for giving me a good laugh!!!

I just got the April 2019 issue and suddenly had to stop in place and reread it

not knowing it was a well placed article cleverly hidden among the real deal.

 Good joke!

Steve McDonough
it was a well placed article cleverly hidden among the real deal. Good joke!

Yep, I liked this one also for its subtlety. Nice work, Steve and the rest of the MR staff!

I forgot it was the April issue when I saw the 'new product announcement'. My thought was what a stupid idea; I imagined my wife's response should I suggest using our one and only dishwasher to weather some RR equipment. Her response could not be reprinted in this forum!! Super AngrySuper AngrySuper AngrySuper Angry
