TroveStar web site for loco/car info
Posted by PED on Thursday, December 20, 2018 11:10 AM

I have looked at the web site called TroveStar and am curious what others may think of it. It is a data base for collectors of all types...not just model RR. You can upload your own inventory, see images and info on locos/cars/etc that users have uploaded into their data base and can also sell stuff but not much is listed there.

I do not intend to keep my inventory there but I have used it to look for images and info on a specific loco or car I may be looking for.

Anyone actually purchased anything via this site? Did it turn out OK?  Has site been useful to you as a data base to find info?

Just trying to determine if it is worth my time to browse it for info.

The HO database is too limited to be of any use.  For locos:  123 Atlas locos  AEM7's and C420's.  No other models and no other brands.

Of the 1000 MR classified ads there are a couple Z scale and the rest N scale.   There is a seller "rating".  Alpine House is rated 16.   I could not find out what that means.

Someone more knowledgeable of the N scale market will have to comment on the pricing.

I do N scale and the data listing are very large compared to anything else so that is why I was interested in it. Sometime I am looking for info on what road numbers were produced for a specific model and the mfg part number. Helps me do a web search for a specific loco I may want.
