GREAT IDEA ; PALM TREES

DO YOU MODEL BEACH AREAS?
I just made a first attempt at making palm trees
and it turned out awesome. Right now, all the leftover
christmas junk is on super sale. I picked up a cheap
wreath with all that fake pine stuff and unraveled and
dismantled. I got some sturdy wire and trimmed and twisted
the "leaves" into the top and then twisted the trunk to a good
length. Then get tape, masking or whatever you find sticks.
Paint to suit and plant on your layout.
I did see this in an article a while ago and finally got to it.
If you model a tropical place- California, Florida, Carribean, etc.
try this and be amazed as I was.

I may have to give this a try--Sacramento has a ton of palm trees and they're mighty expensive to buy--this even sounds simpler than the two methods of "scratchbuilding" palm trees I have heard.

I've sort of been using a stopgap for small palms--tiny plastic palm trees purchased from party-supply stores, intended as cake toppers, sanded on the trunks and painted to make them look less like cheap plastic--they don't look great, but they cost like 7 cents.

I'll have to try this out...off to the clearance sale!
