Spray adhesive recommendation for photo-etched screening
Posted by tstage on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 7:56 PM

I'm going to be adding some photo-etched grills and screening to a Highliner shell.  The directions recommend using spray adhesive.  Does anyone have any recommendations?

I've used 3M before many years ago on a completely unrelated project.  I want something that's thin that isn't going to be visible behind the screening but I also want it to hold well.

Thanks in advance.  I hope to post pics when I'm done.

I attached these stainless steel Farr grills...

...and these brass chicken wire screens...

...using gelled contact cement.  The gelled-type is easier to control, and less likely to get stringy, so it can be applied in very minute amounts.
It needs to be applied to both mating surfaces, and allowed to dry for the specified time before bringing the surfaces together.  The bond is strong and not affected by temperature changes, as might occur with glues such as ca.

The main drawback is that, as far as I'm aware, the smallest amount available is in quart cans.  I use a lot of it, so not an issue, but for a couple of small jobs, perhaps a bit too expensive.

Tom,

I recently(last 6 months) have been using Loctite GO 2 Gel. It is a lot stronger than the Loctite Go2 adhesive I have been using for about 5 yrs. I highly recommend the Gel. I do a lot of miniatures in all kinds of material. I was amazed at how little tiny drops of it can be so strong, You can bump them and the bond will not break free. It even will work on Acetal plastic's, Like Delrin hand rails.

Just follow the directions for a greeeat' bond. None of the parts I have used it on were clamped....just glued and left alone for a small while. IT IS NOT A CA.

Take Care! Big Smile

Frank
