Hi!!! I finally got around changing ththe split axle gear on my athearn 2-8-2 with a NWSL one.
However, theres a lot of gear/motor noise when it runs.
Anyone else have this issue?
Are these models usually loud?or are they silent..

normally the athearn genesis mikado is whisper quiet. did you lube the new gear (with labelle grease or other plastic-safe product)? and also allow a break-in period after lube. -rob
While the Athearn USRA Mikados were poor pullers, they were otherwise smooth and quiet runners. Properly installed and lubricated, the new gear should be equally quiet.
