Linde gasses 40' boxcar ?
Posted by dragonriversteel on Monday, August 6, 2018 6:26 PM

Searching good ole eBay for Linde 40' boxcars.

Did Athearm produce a Linde 40' boxcar ? Reason being some sellers claim to have HO Athearn Linde 40' box.  Is it true ?

Would rather have Athearn than El cheapo Life Like Linde boxcars.

If I recall correctly, the "Athearn" model was actually a Roundhouse/MDC car. Athearn absorbed Roundhouse in the late '90s, maybe.

These were actually tank cars with the tanks enclosed in the "box".

Athearn had its own green Linde 40' boxcar kit.  1241 in their catalog.  Car number is LAPX 2042. The green of the Athearn comes closer to my recollection of the prototype cars than does the LifeLike green.

Also, a Google search suggests that Model Power had one in their metal line.  And I have a vague notion that Lionel may have had one in their HO line for a time.

The only problem with any of these cars is the lack of roof hatches, end doors and plates on the side to access the piping.

The funny thing is they were all ordered with SERX reporting marks and then changed to LAPX.

The majority of the cars were 1937 AAR (10' Height) and 1944 AAR (10'6" Height)
