Experience With Frenchman River Model Works Carfloat?
Posted by JimL on Monday, July 23, 2018 1:31 PM

My wife and I are considering sending her father a Frenchman River resin carfloat and float bridge "kit," as a gift. Anyone have any experiences with them?

Quality of the resin molding? How well the code 100 track was molded in? They sure look nice on the website, and not cheap. lol.

Her father has lost some dexterity in his hands, so things like Walthers' kits are now difficult for him.

Thank you.

Don't have a lot of experience with resin models, but I feel the Frenchman River castings are of good quality.  The code 100 track is fastened securely, but still moveable.  The models have few parts & went together with relative ease, but the winches are a little tricky and require dexterity.  The approch tracks to the float bridge require a custom made or customized turnout.  Shoot me a PM if you'd like.

Regards, Peter

Nice work.

For comparison, I've got a Walthers carfloat and apron.  The carfloat itself was a simple kit, but the apron was more complex, with lots of small parts.

It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.
