Sorry Kyle, football is for people not tough enough to play hockey. Football players stand a yard apart and bump into one another. Hockey players have a closing speed of 60 MPH.

And then there is baseball. They are such wimps they run inside when it starts to rain.LaughSmile, Wink & Grin

You ain't Whistling Dixie there Brent. Although I watch both hockey and football I agree hockey is the tougher sport of the two.

The Canadiens play it outside when it's 30 below and the townspeople are all out watching and rooting for them.

I played hockey when I was in high school. I got smacked into the boards so hard one time my helmet flew off, the back of my neck was slashed with a stick and I ended up in the hospital for a few days with a serious concussion.

After arguing with my mom for several days I was at the next game with my stitches and all........YA!!!

Evening diners,

NASCAR? You mean that type of racing where they race in giant plastic bins with wheels and engines? Get some self respect and watch IndyCar, just kiddingLaugh, personally I prefer IndyCar now, but I don't mind the old NASCAR, like when they actually raced stock cars, I truly love pre-70s Indianapolis 500 racing, especially around the rear engine revolution when the starting field was mixed between front engine roadsters and rear engine racers.

My mom is in full (S)mother mode today, guess she's more nervous about me starting working than I am! I know it's just because she cares.

Got some tree trimming done today, clipped the limbs in the back of the property because they were getting a bit low.

I am watching the US Open. Now there is a full-contact sport. Wink

I figure we can stay in Williams for an extra day and have a little December in June. (Pajamas are optional, but recommended...)

Good steamy afternoon all.

Zoe - I will take the biggest glass available with a RBF please. Thanks.

Weather - Hot, steamy, humid, and hot! It is 12:20 pm EDT, and is 85F, with a few point of 72F, and a forecasted high of 94! That will give a feels like of around 100-105F, depending on how much sun you are under. A bit too warm for me thanks!

W*^k - There everyday through Thursday this week. Getting set to go shortly.

Trains - All layout progress is on hold, as the remodel of two rooms is officially in full swing as of this morning. After that, another remodel where the layout is currently will take place, and the layout progress can begin in earnest.

I attended some of the North East (Pa) Rail Museum event on Saturday night, the annual "Night at the Rail Museum" event. Once I get the photos off my camera I will share a few, including the night shot I got.

Of course, as it goes, right as I packed all my gear into my car, as I had to attend a w*^k meeting first thing Sunday morning, you could hear another train approaching. NS hadn't sent anything by the museum the entire time I had been there, and, sure enough, there they were.

Of course, I had already packed all my gear, so I could not get a single picture!

Hope al are well, and all enjoy the day!

Hello diners.

Steamy and humid in Minnesota the last 3 days here too. It finally broke a little today.

I have two good things and two bad things that were result of one incident.

Bad things

I lost my balance on some rocks and fell on a rock and cracked my ribs about a week ago.

I lost close to a week worth of work and now can only work a few hours a day.

Good things

I have more time to do modeling and chat with you guys which is something I always wish I had more time to do.... be careful what you wish for Whistling

For a better part of the week my ribs hurt so bad it hurt to breathe. To cough was excruciating. I haven't had a cigarette for a week.... I think I may have this...this time Big Smile

 Afternoon Diners

Flo, get the gang and I a Beer and give Rick and Steven what they like.

Mr B Sorry to hear about the heart acting up. Sigh Do what the Doctors says and get well soon!

Rick Good to see you in the dinner again.

Rearyard Wars. Rear patio was a mess and last year I felt overwellmed and really did nothing to it. Today I tackled it and while far from being done I don't get Ick! looking at it. Maybe lossing the 30 pounds is starting to pay off some? Cannot say I feel better, did not even want to go out there. But after I got going, well I felt like doing some work. It was hot at 95 F, I found taking off my shirt it did not feel that bad.

Train Front I have been a good boy by watching what I am spending and Credit Score. But I am kicking my own butt for passing on two engines at BLI Refurb Out Let Store! Bang Head One was a Bessemer SD 7 #803 with rolling thunder for $179.00 and the other one looks like my PRR M1A but has 10 drivers and not 8 for only $239.00 with Rolling Thunder. Bang Head Oh well, life goes on.

Trains And Window A/C Unit. I am glad I have A/C in the Train Room / Garage! Other wise I would not be out here right now. But it sure causes a problem when I run sound engines.

Afternoon Diners,

After a week after I told you guys about not getting cornstalks on eBay. Yesterday I decided to go for it and got the final 2 boxes. Since I'm modeling Nebraska I really needed corn.

Evening diners,

I'll take two Cannoli and a tall glass of chocolate milk

First day of work, my feet hurt, but otherwise it was a good day.

Got a pleasant surprise on the way home, in Slaughter they have spotted five sets of cars in the storage yard and the siding, three sets of short tank cars, a set of covered hoppers and a set of long tankers.

Well I'm don't with the Cannoli I'll be asleep in my booth.

Mentioning that fact, there is this little tidbit as well:

Those stories restore my faith in the "basic kindness" of some people. One of my dearly departed friends was an Amtrak sales rep. and had an office on one of the upper floors of Michigan Central Station in the early eighties.

One time he was busy and told me to go have a "look around" for a while and I got to explore some of the many abandoned offices.

 RR_Postcards_0013 by Edmund, on Flickr

I'll never forget seeing some of the beautiful, oak office doors with gold-leaf lettering on the glass and several had railroad insignias painted on them. I'm sure they were trashed in short order. There were hundreds of file cabinets and storage cabinets. I can't imagine how much "treasure" was probably lost to the ravages of careless and thoughtless deeds.

On a sadder note, I just found out that a classic NYC/LS&MS depot near me in Ashtabula, Ohio, has fallen to the jaws of the excavator.

This depot's location was only a few-hundred yards west of where the great Ashtabula Bridge Disaster occurred:

Hi Ed:

That is indeed a very sad loss of a beautiful depot.

The Allandale Station in Barrie, Ontario has also had its' challenges. The city of Barrie spent millions of dollars to restore it to its' former glory but then things got bogged down by complications with the surrounding land. The city of Barrie refused to spend any more money on the project, and at one point there was the suggestion that the station would be sold off to condominium developers and torn down! Now, thanks to the support from several Canadian First Nations the station looks to be safe.

Here are some details:

In thought hopeful for Mr B over coffee this morning. Get well and go home soon.

It's back to work for me today. Time to start putting in those full days again.

Although an injury wasn't the best way to get time off, I did enjoy doing some modeling, chatting with you guys, gals and just getting some well-deserved R&R for a change.

Have a great day everyone

Howdy .... I'll have an RBF, please. .... Still praying for Mr. B.

Track Fiddler ..... Best wishes as you contionue recovering from an injury.

Regarding the Michigan Central Station in Detroit.....  I worked in downtown Detroit for many years, and I often saw it. It is good to know it will be restored.

Dave .... Thanks for the information about the station near you being restored. Some of the forum members may have seen in the story it was orginally on the Grand Trumk Railway. They may not know the history. GT was a big railroad in Canada, and was a "fallen flag" that went into Canadian National when it was established (1919) . US lines of the GTW became Grand Trunk Western in Michigan, Indiana, and Illinois. Also there was Grand Trunk Eastern in New England. Other US lines were Central Vermont and Duluth Winnepeg & Pacific. Those US lines were 100% owned by CN. The GTW was often called Grand Trunk omitting the Western.

Ed .... Sorry to see the station you posted was demolished. Sadly, that was the fate of many stations including the origianl Penn Station.

I live about 35mi North of Detroit and was in the station in about the mid 70's and couldn't believe the height of the ceiling, backs of the benches and just the grand look of everything.    Good to see Ford is going to do some good things with it.

Evening diners

I had a really smooth day today. Remove and install two exterior doors was on the list. That can be an all day job sometimes if you run into complications. Not today. They both came out and went in like butter with no problems.  I was packing up around noon. If only every day could be like that.

Thank you for the well wishes and concern Wink, much appreciated.

I'm doing all right, bouncing back really good here. Let's direct all that good karma and positive energy towards mr. B ....... get him back home and chatting on the Forum again in no time. Big Smile
