Per the newsreporter they had there: "Union Pacific is bringing their steamroller to Ogden!" To be honest, I am actually pretty disapointed by the livestream. UP hyped the HECK out of this thing, and all we got was confirmation of what everybody had already known (at least here in Utah's railfanning community)... 4014 was being restored in time to make an apperance at a Golden Spike Celebration in Utah. Then they did a sloppy sloppy job at the presentation for the livestream itself. Shakey cell-phone camera filming which looks okay for like a family vacation livestream, but awful for a professional multi-million dollar compay. Then the reporter was so unprepared she was asking some pretty dumb questions and saying some dumb stuff. Poor Ed looked pretty uncomfortable once he realized the reporter was asking such bad questions.I can't believe I am saying this, but UP go get on Twitch and watch the amateur video game livestreamers. They can do a better job than the crapshoot you pulled last night.
Can you provide a link to this? I'd like to see, just out of curiosity.

Hiijacking the tread slightly Rapido Trains put out a youtube video on the restoration of their sleeper car. Actually it is the 4th of a series and Jason is discouraged. He though it would take less than a year and $100K to get it road worthy. It is taking longer and more than twice the cost.
You should really watch them in order

Thanks guys. "Why Utah?" . The young lady didn't have a clue about the Golden Spike.

Well at least she didn't say "Promontory Point" instead of the proper "Promontory Summit"... so I can forgive her on that count.
Goes to show what Abeka Books know (that's my high school curriculum) they claim the golden spike was driven at Promontory Point Utah
I wonder if one of UPs 6900 Centennials will be present as well?
I hate it when programs attempt to be knowledgeable about trains, whether it's an educational program or the news media.

If everything seems under control, you're not going fast enough!
There is a 6900 on static display in Ogden; but I would love to see UP's active one fixed up to make the trip too. If I was a betting man though, I would place my money that one of the engines trailing either 844 or 4014 will be UP 1943; that is UP's favorite diesel unit right now and I bet there will be no hesitation to shove it right behind one of the big steam engines. Ogden is near the active Hill Air Force Base, so there would be a lot of veterans and servicemen happy to see 1943 too.
If UP gets ambitious all the Heritage Units might make a appearance, I thought I heard a 6900 had been placed in Executive service hauling business trains, if that's true one might appear with the UP exec train in tow. Won't be as impressive as when they were in service, being that supposedly the unit they use has lost one PM.
snjroyWell, there is a bit of an historical disconnect between the Golden Spike and the Big Boys Smile
Your right there! I think the only big boys around then were the guys driving the spikes.
