Some time ago I purchased a Westside GN P-2 Mountain, however it is missing the cold water pump located below the cab on the fireman's side. I haven't been able to find out the specifics on to get a replacement.
Can someone point me in the right direction?
Thanks,
Kevin
Hi Kevin, and to the MR Forums.
Cal-Scale offers a complete Worthington SA-Type feedwater heater which includes a cold water pump, heater, and hot water pump. It's Part #190-270.Since you need only the cold water pump, Part #190-6215 is one which would be suitable - their full catalogue shows a number of illustrations identified only with part numbers, so there may be others, too - the 6215 was the first one I came across which was readily identifiable. Contact Bowser (they own Cal-Scale) and have a very large selection of brass parts in-stock.
Another option is Precision Scale: their catalogue shows a Worthington cold water pump, Part #HO-32592. They also have Part #HO-3165, a Worthington centrifugal cold water pump, and Part #HO-32183, another, slightly different, Worthington cold water pump.
In addition to those are Part #HO-3114, a Coffin centrifugal cold water pump, and several Elesco cold water pumps, Part #HO-3511, #HO-31080, #HO-32259, and #HO-32188. The reason I mention the Coffin and Elesco pumps is because some roads did use such cold water pumps with Worthington feedwater heaters - perhaps an effort to save money if they already had such pumps on-hand.
I used Cal-Scale's 190-270 on my Bachmann USRA Light Mountain, and mounted it just below the front corner of the firebox...

I am confused. I just looked at a lot of photos of GN P-2's. All of them, on the left side under the cab, had an injector, not a cold water pump. On the right side, there was commonly an Elesco exhaust injector, though not always.
I also had a look at a Westside P-2 model, and it is arrayed as described above.
So I am curious about this unusual GN P-2, both the prototype and the model.

I'm uncertain if this is a P-2, but the cold water pump is at the rear of the trailing truck, the heater unit on the pilot, and the hot water pump beneath the running board, just aft of the cylinder casting.
From what I can see, the Westside P-2 was not equipped with a feedwater heater, but with an exhaust steam injector as originally constructed. At least one enigine, 2523 was later equipped with a Worthington BL type side mounted heater.

The exhaust steam injector was actually mounted on the engineer‘s side of the locomotive and there was a standard live steam injector on the fireman’s side

It IS a P-2.
That is an injector at the trailing truck.
I can't see what's on the pilot.
I think the "water pump" is/are one or two mechanical lubricators.
You can see here:
the exhaust injector. It is the very large casting below the firebox and above and ahead of the trailing truck. I have never heard of an Elesco exhaust injector being combined with any other feedwater heater.
On the left side shot of 2507 noted earlier, you can see the water supply piping from the left side injector running up to the left side check valve. This is not at all how a cold water pump would be routed.

NO P-2's had exhaust steam injectors when originally constructed. Various feedwater heaters (including the Elesco exhaust) were added starting in 1926, three years after delivery.
At least one enigine, 2523 was later equipped with a Worthington BL type side mounted heater.
Nine of the 28 P-2's received Worthington feedwater heaters. There is some suspicion that some were later replaced with the Elesco exhaust injectors.

Ok, well maybe I am the one confused. If that 'gizmo' below the cab is an injector, then it explains why I couldn't find a match for it in any of the catalogs. But it's surely the piece missing.
I'll do some more searching.
This also reafirms why I came to you guys.
And one small confession- I've actually been a member of this forum for a while and long admired the work many of you do, but being an OTR driver makes it a bit difficult to get much (any) modeling done.
Regards,
Thanks to the fine folks at brasstrains.com, here's a good shot of the left side injector of the Westside GN P-2:
The closest I can find for this part is a Cal-scale 190-262:

I agree. The CNR replaced feedwater heaters with Elesco exhaust injectors on many locomotives late in their life, as they required less maintenance than a fwh.
Their most modern steam, the 6060 series of Mountains, were equipped an Elesco exhaust injector when built....
Thanks for all the help guys.
1 Nathan non-lifting injector on the way. Hopefully it will beat me to the house.
