I started on this project when the loco was brand new. Painted, and decaled, I never got around to finishing the grab irons, then life got in the way. I am going to install DCC, finished the grabs, installed the window glazing and headlight.
I found this, the pins are identical in size, because of the wide angle effect of the lens, it doesn't look like it in the photo.
Those little pins match up with holes behind the lightboards. Not sure where I am supposed to cut this piece free, but it looks like it might fit behind the head light lens. It is not shown in the instructions on the Bowser site.
The original circuit board has a bulb inserted in a metal tube to prevent light leakage in the cab.
My question is will this light pipe supply enough light to the number boards to even be visible? I am converting to an LED so I need to figure out how to fit the headlight, number board light pipe and led together.

I'm not sure if this helps you out Henry, but in the "How To", there is a video of a decoder install in a Stewart F unit.
Maybe it might help you figure out the number board.
I have terrible luck with the MR videos, with user videos, no problem, so I didn't try to watch it.
Kato uses a light pipe to feed head lights, and ditch lights, the bulp is mounted on the board, and it is amazing how much light is given out!

Thanks Mike, I'll have to look for the video. The circuit board is amost the same as my old Atlas RS3 so it really should be no problem.
As for my original question, fuggetaboutit. I don't know what he holes are for, but they are not parallel so the clear widget doesn't fit anywhere. Maybe it's for classification lights in a F9. If anyone is curious, here is the back of the number board.
It's possible that the piece doesn't go on your particular model. Hence, you don't use it.
Maybe.

I believe that small hole is so you can push the center out of the bezel.
