Dear readers,

Its probably good to pass along here that the Denver Society of Model Railroaders disbanded September 2019 they were founded in 1935 and prior to the creation of the club they occupied a space at Denver Union Station since 1928 on the 2nd floor mezzanine. The great Platte River flood of 1935 was an opportunity as the station management offered them the basement space directly below the main floor of the station if they cleaned it up. The rest was a vibrant wonderful history that lasted 80 years. The layout used a then state of the art 2 rail DC block to block propulsion system designed by its own members that worked in telephony. Amazing scenery by Disney artisans and generations of model builders and hobbyists. Truly a tragic loss for Denver. The current space is now 4 banquet office rooms directly behind the bar in the basement of the Crawford Hotel.

I was a board member and operations director for a time since 2003 and left the club in 2014 over irreconcilable differences with the organization at that time. Sadly, eventually the club allowed itself to desolve despite an interest in the area for continuing an o scale community after losing the club space at the Crawford Hotel Union Station in May 2014.

The current o scale community in Colorado is hosting the upcoming 2021 O scale National Convention in June. The DSMR hosted the convention in Denver back in 1994 and today a few of those folks are active in bringing the convention back this next year.

O scale still very much has a life in Colorado and you can visit our website here: http://coloradooscale.org

Hope this helps.

I created this Instagram page as a living memorial of the Colorado Midland Model Railroad:
