No photos of that, Wayne???

What?...of her having given up, or of me not listening?

Wayne

You have things so well documented from your layout, Wayne, I thought there might be photos of that also. Smile, Wink & Grin

I am thankful that my wife is supportive of the hobby. This subject makes me chuckle at a couple of things I saw at train shows though.

Saw a guy shuffle past with his hands in his pockets. following him was his grandson pushing his wife in a wheelchair. Her comment hurry up and catch your grandad- he looks like he's going to buy something.......Tongue Tied

My favorite though was when we went to the national. I was walking along with my wife and our son. Ahead of us was a new Dad pushing a baby stroller. In the bottom were about five of the green Overland brass models boxes. I turned to my wife- and told her what they were. My coment was... but honey they are for the baby....Big Smile I had her about doubled over laughing.......wonder if they guy ahead of us tried that line....

Well, I really did it today.

My wife saw my STRATTON AND GILLETTE keychain/ID badge I made for myself, and now she thinks I am ready for the loonie bin.

I usually get that or "seriously?" when I buy another brass engine/car.  I am slowly building up to having mostly just brass on my layout.  I have my motive power covered now, along with a couple older freight cars. She as learned how to spot possible brass freight cars at shows and to do the finger nail "tink tink" light tap on the body to see if its metal(brass) or plastic.  We have both found a few this way.  Mostly older Mantua or International Models.  Cheers   Mike and Michele T

When she tried to move one of my totes, but she can't, because it weighs a couple hundred pounds.

Then she hears my "explanation" on why I thought I needed to buy this much ballast.

*pfft*  a key chain.  That's nawt!  (Geordie for that's nothing - my wife is a Geordie from northern England).

If she thinks you are ready for the loonie bin then she either not very unflappable or hasn't seen anyone who is REALLY ready for the loonie bin.  Their is w-a-y worse than that out there.  Take her to a sci fi or Star Trek conventions where people dress up like Klingons or aliens or Star Fleet personnel.  Thats much more loonie.

Her response depends on when I purchase things, what I get, etc.  She was the one who enticed me to moving by telling me I get a larger room.  I sometimes remind her about that whenever I get her negative responses or eye roll.

I am the opposite side of the coin here.

The funny thing is she never said it.  If she would have said  (Are you kidding me) I would have understood.

My layout has been on the glass table on the dining room table for two years. My wife is something else. The things she lets me get away with are unbelievable.

What wife would let you set up a model railroad on the dining room glass table and let you keep it there for two years?

I'm still fascinated.  I do believe I have a Good Woman.

OK, here is the latest.

My wife saw me lettering a tank car, one letter at a time.

She asked why I was putting so much work into it. I said it was a custom roadname and there were not decals available for it.

She said "Don't you have like 100 decals for fake railroads?"

I said yes, but not for this fake railroad.

She asked me to explain why one fake railroad was more important, or more interesting, than any other fake railroad.

I said, because this one has advertising posters made my another forum member, so it is worth all the extra work.

Well, she said it, "You have got to be kidding me."

Don't even try to explain the whole Gern corporate history to her then....

I think Dr. Wayne is the only one here who is involved in the whole Gern thing, but over on that different forum where it originated there's whole sticky threads about it. If you haven't seen that. It may be too whimsical for some, but it is pretty well thought out considering it's a fantasy industry making fantasy products.

When I told her that I had done a burnout using the Line-Lock feature on our 2019 Mustang GT at a car show. It was followed shortly by, "Don't you have something that you can be doing on your layout?"
I started adding new vegetation the day before yesterday and more weathering on an abandoned flatcar.

I think I can only recall one "you've got to be kidding" statement from my wonderful spouse (as it relates to trains or model trains I hasten to add): I had just poured "Magic Water" two part resin on my modeled creekbed and per instructions and suggestions was blowing on it to make any air bubbles rise up and disappear.  She could hear me blowing and blowing and blowing and came from another area of the basement because she thought perhaps I was having another stroke.

Now this is the best laugh I've had in a long time.

Nice job on that GERN car, Kevin.

If you're interested, PM your e-mail address to me, and I'll send you a whole bunch of GERN-related advertising.

There are around 50 GERN modellers in various parts of the world, and some of them participate in this Forum, too.  Not all of them model GERN, but do receive the promotional blurbs as my brother creates them.  It involves some whimsy, of course, but many who do model it use it as a traffic generator.

Here's a link to my version of GERN Industries, and I believe that there's some input there from others interested in the concept, too.

When I used the search feature in that Forum to locate that particular thread link, I got close to 200 examples featuring the phrase "GERN Industries"

This is easy; it happened on Monday when the pro painted M-636 finally showed up, and I liked it so much that I got on Brasstrains.com and used some sales proceeds to get an SP&S C-636 that may just get painted a hot Mexican flavor...

If mine ever made that remark, I'd just go into the family room the next time she's watching some stupid soap opera, and repeat it back to her.

The original remark, YGTBK.

As for the dare, it might take less of a dare than you‘d think.  ‘Nuff said.

This one is a little complicated...

A while back, I painted a train car for the PACIFIC TRANSPORTATION COMPANY, and gave it reporting marks PTX. Good renough, but this started a problem.

Later, I acquired a set of decals for the PROVIDENCE TANK LINE, which had the reporting marks PTX, which I used, and then realized I had a duplicate. To fix it, I added a "T" to the beginning and made it TPTX.

Well, I just lettered a tank car for the TEXAS PORT TRANSPORTATION COMPANY, reporting marks TPTX! I had to soak out a decal letter and change it to TPRX, and I got mad.

I tried to explain all this to my wife, and well, you know what she said.

You moved your layout from the kitchen table to the living room...... that's a definite Improvement,  are you kidding me.

I've shown my wife quite a few posts on this forum and she definitely shakes her head with the "you've got to be kidding" look.

But to be fair, I show her posts on other forums too, and for different reasons, she also shakes her head.
