I've recently purchased a few ho scale figures. I bought a woodland scenics package of ordinary people and preiser trucker. I'm excited to add them to the layout. I'm wondering though if anyone has heard of available sets of the same figure/character in different poses. For example, a yard worker standing on or climbing grab irons, throwing a turnout, climbing stairs, sitting, etc. Has anyone heard of such a thing, or have experience accomplishing this? I searched through the 50 pages of walthers online offerings but haven't found anything.

I like lots of figures on my layout, too. I have found that Google Image search really helps when you are looking for a specific pose, even to get you "in the ball park" (which there are lots of figures for).
There are times when I get out the surgeons tools, especially a fine razor saw and needle file.
For instance this unfortunate cook had a wedge cut out of his belly so he could lean out the door.

Then I realized he was looking down at the ground so I broke his neck, filed it a little and re-glued it in more of a bent-up pose, then I filed his chef's "toque" into more of a cadet cap which many of the dining car cooks wore. He really didn't complain much.
I like Preiser figures the best. It seems to me that they have three "levels" of detail with the price also commensurate. Sometimes you want one of the "premium" figures for a front-center scene.
Although I do have some, IMHO the Woodland Scenics figures look just a little goofy, such as these ladies with the Minnie-Mouse mittens on.

If you have the time and patience you can get the unpainted figures, of course. Some of those have separate arms and some are split at the waist for gluing into different poses. Careful application of heat from a soldering iron tip will also allow you to make some modifications to their pose, too.

Lots of the folks here have more experience with figures and I'm sure they'll contribute some good ideas. Sadly, many of the old threads that I searched for suffer from the Photobucket Purge!
Keep an eye out for discounts at ModelTrainStuff as they have sales on figures every now-and-then. The Walthers monthly flyer lists them often, too.

Those folks really bring the scenes to life. Looks good.
Do you glue them down? I ordered some of the WS non-permanent "stick-ums" so i can move figures around but it's still in transit.
