After Thanksgiving and Black Friday, comes "Small Business Saturday" on the holiday event calendar.
.
My wife and I wenty on a road trip to celebrate the day today. We left the AWESOME hotel room on Melbourne Beach this morning and went adventuring. The weather was perfect. Mid 70s all day and crystal clear blue skies.
The first stop was TRFTrains in Melbourne, Florida. I had never been to this hobby shop before. I just do not get to the Space Coast very often. This was a great little store with a friendly couple operating the store. I found a ton of cool resin buildings by Model Tech Studios and bought a bunch. Great first stop.
Then we drove to Orlando and had lunch with our youngest daughter. Great time. The next stop was Colonial Photo and hobby in Orlando. Picked up paint and a re-supply of hobby basics.
We drove all the way West on Interstate 4 and then South on 275 to get to Zitnik Trains in Pinellas Park. This is another store I have never been to. Great place! Another friendly couple running the store and the cutest puppy in the world. Found some treasures there I had been hunting and spent a couple hundred dollars!
Unfortunately we encountered some traffic and could not make it to Gulf Coast Model Railroading before they closed.
Great day... It was a great Thanksgiving week for us. I hope everyone is just as happy today as I am.
What did anyone else do for Small Business Saturday?

Living the dream.
I went to FIT in 1969, there were no hotels on Melbourne Beach and there weren't more than 8 women in our freshman class. I went elsewhere for my sophomore year.
Sounds like you had a fun day.

Sadly I wasn't able to get downtown to go to my LHS which is Andy's Hobby Towne on Airline Hwy Baton Rouge.
Another LHS I have been to that's not too local to me is G&G Hobby Shop in Houston, TX I went there back in April before Harvey rolled through hope they're doing well...

If everything seems under control, you're not going fast enough!
Well who knew! Small Business Saturday, I guess it's official, I DO live under a rock. But I pick what rock I want to live under.
Lets see, wifey went out and about shopping today, went to a small business to buy her harness boots, the boots with the straps on them, not be confused with engineer boots. Then went to a very small local jewelery to pick up a repaired bracelot. I did nothing except a trip to the local harware store.
And, the wifey is the owner/operator/chief cook and bottle washer for her own small business.
Mike.
Forgot about me! I'am also the owner/operator/chief cook and bottle washer for my own home inspection business.

I spent my Freshman year (1981-1982) in Baton Rouge. I went to Baton Rouge High School that year. We moved there for 1 year from Gainesville, Florida.
My "hobby shop" at that time was Byronz Books. They sold Dungeans and Dragons books and accessories. That is what we were doing that year. There was no room for trains in the small house. Everything stayed in storage the year, I got into Punk Rock (buying at Next Generation Music on Florida Ave in Baton Rouge), and I was pretty miserable. Lousiana girls back then were not like Florida girls in the 1980s!
The next year we would move to Cape Coral, Florida and I would create the STRATTON & GILLETTE.
