Has anyone tried the new Athearn N scale Challenger yet? if so, how does it seem to be for pulling power?

Welcome to the forum. Haven't seen it yet, but the Spookshow website is always a good first stop for N scale equipment:

I used to own one of their original first run Challengers and it ran very well. I had to sale it to a guy at work because my layout was just too small for it...

I emailed Mark (Spookshow) a couple of days ago about the new Challenger and he said that he probably won"t do this one as the last release was a A+ all the way.  I have one coming from Klein and should be here next week.  I too, think it will be another A+.  DR

I recently received a new 2017 version of the Atherns n scale 4-6-6-4 Challanger and found it weak in pulling power. It could only manage 7 freight cars up a 1.7% grade. I was encouraged to send it back to Athearns and they changed the motor and drive wheels but this made no difference. I have been encouraged to send it back a second time and am assured this engine should be able to pull substantually more cars up this grade. We will see what happens and keep you posted.
