Good morning or afternoon, actually.

Did some shopping and that agrivated the labral tear in my rt hip and the torn ligaments in my rt knee.

I can get a shot for the knee from the orthopedic surgeon,  once he also looked into my hip, hoping he can do the same for the hip. I was pretty lame by the end of the work day on Saturday with both acting up.

Gotta go up down stairs as laundry is getting desparate.  That'll be a trick and a half.

Then gotta clean the house. Because tomorrow for my birthday my significant other is coming up, then after our day together we, including my OH and my significant other are going out to dinner.  Yes , my OH knows my significant other,  just will be at work all day while my significant other is here. My OH actually liked my SO, even though my OH is jealous. This whole thing is due to my OH.  Nuff said.

While I'm down there doing laundry I'll ponder about a location for the "L" shaped train layout boards at my fathers thst the old o/o27 layout was on when I WAS a kid. I can have quite a massive HO SCALE layout on that kind of REAL ESTATE !!! At least compared to my 3.5x 5.1 HO lay out in the trailer.

I'll also update the Bug out Bags and get them ready for the vehicles in case the craps hits the fan.

That's a tall order today since I can't hardly walk.

PS: I guess I got top honors! I haven't forgotten my duty.

Pork chops with corn on the cob from my garden for every one! ( well the corn is from my garden,  the pork chops are leftover LIVE BACON lolololol)

Good morning from the sunny West coast.

Welcome back to Galaxy and way to go on the weight loss.Thumbs Up

Had a friend and his son come to take away some of the firewood from my two trees that we had fallen. He filled his P/U truck and a car trailer and it hardly made a dent in the pile. We have three gas fireplaces, so I will not be able to use it, although I will save some for camping trips. The rounds are four feet across at the base.

I am getting close to having brought all the branches out to the road (the skinny ends). I cut them in half as they go up to about 10" in diametre. I need to cut those parts into logs for firewood.

It was painful watching this kid splitting logs, the first thing he did was break my sledgehammer by hitting the wedge with the handle instead of the head. Tongue Tied If they had a PlayStation lumberjack game, he would be an expert.Laugh These friends are pretty generous to me when I help them out. Train stuff is often my reward for doing handy work for them, although I feel guilty taking stuff for helping out a friend. I am trying to tell them it is me they are helping out as they are taking all this wood off my hands, although just putting the rounds out at the road would make it disappear in a hurry.

Someday I may get back to working on the layout, this endless sunny weather makes it hard to stay indoors.

Time to fire up the chainsaw and John Deere and get back at it. I sure move slow these days.Sigh

All the best to all.

Howdy ...

Galaxy ... My wife and I have had some a strange stuff from auto correct. Something to laugh at.

Cheers, everybody .

I'm missed the autocorrect statement the first time I read through this post.

My autocorrect , for some reason takes the word "pension" and insists on making it...well...the male anatomical appendage, if you get my meaning.

It was good for a laugh once, maybe twice, and my SSDI isn't really a pension, but I've learned the hard way that WHEN I refer to "pension" I'd best be SURE it says " pension "...and NOT, UM, ER, AH  well, you KNOW.....BEFORE I send it!!!!

Watch yours too!

It was,a hilarious statement that first time....i said "...and my PENSION isn't big enough...."....um, ah, what autocorrect made that statement was embarrassing, .???

It made a liar out of me.lolol.

There IS  a site devoted to autocorrect mistakes....its: (literally)

Damnyouautocorrect.com

Take a look sometime...i HOPE our esteemed moderator, MR. OTTE WILL let the correct website title stand here....

And no, I'm not really advertising it.

It's hilarious reading!

Flo, Gary, Ed, Inch, Galaxy, Ulrich, Jan, Brent The Buick Guy if he shows up and I will have a Beer please.

Another Caboose Day. I have been looking for part and full time jobs the last few days. Does not seem to be much out there as of this morining.

Galaxy You sure your auto correct was mistaken? Whistling Sorry The Devil Made Me Type That. Reminds me of when I was trying to type Gentle Breeze but it came out as Genital Breeze and Todd the King Of Todd land was busting his gut from LOL!  Laugh Sure wished I proof read and got that mistake. Sigh

Train Front I have the Might PCM Y6b dragging some fast freight and dang it still runs great after 2000 plus hours! It has pulled 89 coal cars at K-10 Model Trains up a 2% grade. It could have pulled more but the coal cars started String Line around 32" turns. Best steam engine, well any engine I have!

Evenin' folks!

Janie, a cup of decaf would hit the spot right now.  Thank you Ma'am!

Ahem...  Galaxy and Ken....  Love it!  I have sent a few "auto corrected" emails out to people over the years that made me both roar and cringe.  A few thought that was what I really wanted to say anyway.  LOL

Today was at least interesting....  Got about half of the remaining deck stained and ran out of the staining sealent.  The deck itself uses a lot more than the railings do.  I will buy another gallon tomorrow morning and try to get most of the rest finished before I have to drive to my sister's house.  I want to check to make sure I know where everything is as one of her kitties has pancreatitis and is just finishing up a course of pills for it.  He is a beautiful, sweet, huge tiger cat and only about 4 years old they think.  I do hope he doesn't have any problems while she is gone to the "Very Far"...

Church was.... Ah.... Ahem, very interesting, well after church particularly.  I have mentioned asking my pastor at an Eagle Ceremony a couple months back if I should shave off my beard.  Her reaction was , "I don't like Beards, Ray" and gave me a huge grin...  A couple weeks ago she saw me after church and commented that I looked younger without the beard.  At that time I still had the moustache though.  Today as I was leaving, I was waiting behind a couple elderly ladies who were being helped into cars at the door.  My pastor looked up at me when I said Hi and her jaw dropped and she got very wide eyes....  I won't go into detail about everything she said (and did), but I have been smiling all afternoon and not only as I have been told "Look" younger, but have felt a bit younger too....  Ahem! Smile, Wink & Grin

I'm trying to spend at least a half hour a day doing some stuff down in the train room.  Been cleaning up a lot of junk and actually put in some foam banks for scenery along a track that ends up in staging from the Kanadaqua Yard.  I hope to get the plaster cloth installed there and painted earth color before the layout is open for the Fall Meet in November.  I HAVE to get a newsletter out to the membership ASAP!  It should have been finished and out a couple weeks back.  I still need an article to fill out the pages.........  May have to reprint one from a while back.

Fall is definately starting here in the Finger Lakes Region even though the temp was 90°F today.  Leaves are now coming over across the street and getting on my deck as i was staining it from the Locust Tree in the yard over there...  I hope to get all the items finished that need to get done before snow flies...  Oh, I'm sorry, bad words for here in the forum, but as Robert Frost said:  "You can't get too much Winter in the Winter."

Have a great night out there!

Good evening Diners,

Brunhilda, I'll have an Earl Grey tea with cream and honey, please.

Just dropping in to say hello.  It is officially Autumn but you wouldn't know it.  We've had temps in upper 80s and low 90s all this last week.  More like July or early August weather.  Kinda reminds me of when I first moved to LA.  I was in the valley and it was 103 at the end of September.  Of course, we all know it was due to Santa Ana's, but that's kind of normal there this time of year.  Sorry I haven't provided pics and videos of railroading in Texas.  Haven't figured out how to post photos from Dropbox yet, and I haven't done the research to find info.  So, I sure hope someone else more capable opens the October diner.

Hello to everyone, and I hope everyone is OK and safe.

Less is more,...more or less!

Angel ... Sounds like a good boxcar (CB&Q) ... You may wish to have several projects at once. So if you are waiting for roadbed, you can work on something else. Maybe another boxcar.

Galaxy ... Some of our auto correct words also can't be posted here even though they are rather funny. Enough said.

I spent the day cleaning up hurricane mess. The house was without power for 13 days.

.

We thought we emptied the refrigerator before we left, but there were two Klondike bars hiding in the shelf of the freezer door that we missed! You would not believe the mess these two little buggers made. The ice cream melted and oozed all along the freezer door seal. The seal was not 100%, and it slowly seeped out the bottom. From there it ran on the refrigerator door gasket and basically glued it shut. Then it dripped into a pool on the floor.

.

I was able to get a new door gasket. It took about 4 hours to fully fix that mess. I should have just bought a new refrigerator.

It's weird. When we have high blood pressure, the doctor tells us to cut salt out of our diets. So, if salt is really the cause, when we have LOW blood pressure, why doesn't the doctor prescribe us a trip to McDonald's? Tongue Tied

For those of us who need more salt in their diets, but don't want to take it with a side of liver, here's today's Diner breakfast special.

Bernoulli's Law says that forcing a fluid through a narrow passage increases the pressure. Well, if you want to narrow your arteries, that breakfast above will certainly do it. Dinner Enjoy!

Good morning .... I'll have OJ and oatmeal please. ... I have avoided salt so long, I no longer like it. I rarely eat french fires, and if I do I order them without salt. If we have salted nuts, I wash the salt off before eating them.

Galaxy : Happy B-Day

Tom .... That was an intersting mix of trains you saw while railfanning. I'm wondering about the denatured alcohol. Was there a whole train of that commodity?

Good morning from the West Coast, where a light rain is falling.

After four days of working to clear up the trees from the back forty, my body says no more. Even with serious painkillers, I am in rough shape so a day off is in order. Now I know why I was forced out of my job, it is all coming back to me now. My hands are totally swollen up from this arthritis and just moving from one room to the next is a big effort. Give me a day to recover and I'll be right back at it though.Laugh

The kid was complaining about how easy first year at University was, to the point of being bored out of his mind. He got 100% on all his early exams so they have moved him up to second year in a couple of subjects. I hope that helps. He went to a highly academic school and his final two years of high school basically covered the first two years of University so he may get bumped up again. He is enjoying discussing/ debating with his peers as they all think they are going to change the world and they have endless discussions on what should be done.

He has been texting back and forth with a bunch of people from the movie/TV biz including a couple of directors. I think work will be waiting for him when he comes home in April. There is also a film school at his University and the film students are in his residence and since they found out how much work he did last spring and Summer, they have not stopped picking his brain.

Well, I'll see if my swollen hands will let me play my guitar. I probably play about twelve hours a week, however, if that doesn't work out, I'll fire up the layout.

All the best to all.

Brent

Afternoon folks!

Chloe, I'll have something with a whole lot less fat than what Steven is having......

Actually Bernoulli's Principle is just the opposite...  "The definition of Bernoulli's principle is the concept that an increase in a liquid's speed creates a pressure decrease and a decrease in a liquid's speed creates a pressure increase.

An example of Bernoulli's principle is the wing of an airplane; the shape of the wing causes air to travel for a longer period on top of the wing, causing air to travel faster, reducing the air pressure and creating lift, as compared to the distance traveled, the air speed and the air pressure experienced beneath the wing."

I used to teach Bernoulli's Principle/Law to 6th. graders when we studied the Woodwind family of instruments as that is the explanation of how they each produce sound.  I once mentioned that while a scientist was teaching a class in aerodynamics to Scouts at Sci-Tec Camp at Boy Scout Camp  (I was one of the people in charge of the program).  He looked at me with a strange, "What?" look and then it hit him.  He brightened up and said, "Yes, Of course!"  He then thanked me as in all his years of being a physical scientist he had never thought of that....  The principal as applied to a clarinet is that the air blown through the mouthpiece is faster than the air pressing on the reed (through the lip of the player) and therefore is lowered presure moving the reed in stopping the flow of air.  That equalizes the pressure which moves the reed back.  This happens hundreds of time per second producing the sound we hear.  Same is true in the flute as the moving air (fluid) is low pressure making the air in the mouthpiece move up blocking the air moving over the mouthpiece...  And so forth....  Fluid moving through a smaller pipe has to move faster for the same volume and therefore decreases in pressure....

Got the deck basically done today.  Just need to do some touch up, probably tomorrow.  On my way oiut the door to drive to my sister's house in Canandaigua.  That is always "fun". Whistling

Catch you all later!

Evening Diners,

Galaxy- Happy birthday!

Garry- The only project I been fixed on right now is the backdrop to divide the scenery.

Kevin- How much is the insurance going pay for all hurricane damage?

I have a dentist appointment in the morning tomorrow.

I'm enjoying looking at steam locomotives again. I chosen a 0-6-0 with a tender change since I don't like the slope version. And 2-8-0 Consolidation with a 4-6-2 Pacific.

.

Nothing.

.

There is zero damage to the actual dwelling. In fact, you have to look REALLY HARD to find anything other than a manufactured home that has any damage.

.

I lost a Royal Poinciana tree (12 years old), and my front screen door. Not too bad, and the screen door is not worth calling the insuracnce company about. I don't know for sure what my deductable is, but still not going to bother. There are a few people out there with real problems.

.

The biggest problem, is in the back yard. All three of my adjacent neighbors have fences. I do not have a fence, but shared all three of those. The fences are all destroyed. Their back yards are all terrible messes. Some people just have no pride in their proprerty. I hope I don't need to spend months looking at trash piles and debris in my neighbor's yards.

.

Since the house had no power for so long their was a lot of humidity and moisture inside. The A/C is clearing that out now. It is so much better than yesterday. I do not see any signs of mold.

Good Evening,

Happy Birthday Galaxy! Hope you had a nice day.

A cool day here with a a high of about 50F. It is supposed to warm up by mid week so here's hoping. We have had a fair amount of rain though which we really needed.

Watched a DVD today, Steam in Ontario that was shot by Donald Krofta. A very nicely done video of steam in 1958.

We lost a fish from our pond a couple of nights ago. A racoon was in the yard and went into the pond to do a little fishing. We know that is what happened as there were scales and fin bits on the steps that go down to the pond. I also heard some sort of animal snarling in the yard about 4 a.m. and it certainly wasn't a cat.

Nothing on the agenda tonight. Tomorrow I will be going to lunch with fellow retirees from my former employer. At the end of the month the new owners(Lowes) are shutting down the office and warehouse. It might be hard to sell that building as  the warehouse is over 400,000 s.f. and the office is a good size too. Kind of sad to see it shut as 500 people worked there back in the day.

Have a nice day,

CN Charlie

Galaxy good to see you back and happy birthday.  I don't know anything about labral tears but hope it heals without the sawbones.

Ray I will see your Bernoulli's principle and raise you a Poiseuille's Law.  The resistance is inversely proportional to the 4th power of the radius.  While the pressure might go down in the narrowed artery, it goes way up before the narrowing.

I am at the beach with a metal detector.  My treasure hunting total for 2 days is $1.35, 4 bottle caps, 4 surprisingly sharp rusty nails, and a chewing gum wrapper.  Can't make out the date, but the oldest coin is a silver Roosevelt dime.  In a couple weeks we will visit my wife's niece who lives very close to a Civil War battlefield.  I am looking forward to that.  No, battlefield metal detecting is illegal, but her property is close enough to have seen troops on it if not shooting.

Evenin' folks!

Janie, just a cup of decaf for me right now.  Had a nice hunk of Pork Spareribs and a couple ears of sweet corn (yep!  Still in season here) for supper.  Caught a nice sale on some spareribs at gthe grocery store yesterday.  Tonight I cut them up into small serving sized hunks and they will feed me for 11 more meals for about $12....

Yep, that is what I was thinking...  The break would occur right about where the poor slob has an aneurysm.  Not a good thing.

Tomorrow I have to finish up a Music Merit Badge with one of the Scouts in the Handicapped Troup.  I will need to find my copy of the MB or download a copy from the internet...  Should clean the house a bit too.  His Mom will be coming over (the Scout is a neighbor actually) as we want to follow the 2 deep leadership Youth Protection rules....

Kitties are paitiently waiting for there canned food mixed with canned pumpkin (keeps their intestines working and helps them avoid the constipation they have had on occasion).  Catch you all tomorrow!

 Eveing Diners!

Flo, Ed, Gary, Ray, Inch, Brent, Jan, Galaxy, Ulrich and I will have a Beer please.

First good day at work for me for about 40 days! Finally sold a good spiff bed and made a extra $98.00.

Galaxy Well Happy B-Day and it sounds like a good one at that!

SS at 62. Think I am going to do it. If the information I have got from SS and what I found on the internet is correct we will recivie about $2004.00 a month. That will cover the bills and leave a extra $200.00 for stuff that pops up. Now I plan on keep working and if I keep making what I am, after they take the over pay out the next year I will still have a extra $900.00 a month to pay off credit cards, stick in saving, house repairs or if I am real lucky a motorcycle! Surprise I really miss riding. I have over 100,000 miles on a motorcycles.

Good morning, everybody ... Coffee and a donot please.

It occurred to me this weekend why some churches have Sunday morning donuts. Donots are "holey"......... Smile, Wink & Grin.... Oh, never mind ....

Good morning!

Welcome back, Galaxy.

I have a successful cleanup story, too.  I'm cleaning out the house for painting prior to putting it on the market, and I knew I'd have a lot of trash, too much to expect to get rid of by the normal curbside pickup route.  They give us one can to fill for weekly pickup, plus recycling.  They are kind of fussy about what they'll pick up, so my yard in front of the house had a huge mess this week, and the recycling truck passed it by completely.  I've never been able to teach "that woman" about trash pickup rules, so she just piles stuff randomly about and it's no surprise they won't take it.

Anyway, when this mess started I bought a Junkster bag and pre-paid for pickup.  They showed up yesterday, and I asked if they could take some of the other stuff, too.  I gave a cash "tip" to the two guys, and they cleared up absolutely everything.  Well worth it.

. . . I bought a Junkster bag and pre-paid for pickup. . .

Have you used them before? I would be interested in your experience. I have been considering using one when we replace some of the flooring in the house.

After long and careful thought, they have convinced me. I have come to the conclusion that they are right. The aliens did it.
