It's that time of the week again. For those who are new, Weekend photo fun is a weekly thread that lets us exhibit our projects we have been working on in the week. We accept models of all scales and eras. even the occasional prototype stuff. What have I been working on? This.
This is Wheeling and Lake Erie 2662. A high hood GP35. ex Southern railway./
The prototype was one of three units painted this way, and is the last to still wear this. This scheme was tried in the early years of the Wheeling, but the Rio Grande colors and font won out.
The model was fun to do. This started out as a Santa Fe GP35 from Kato. I had to cut the low nose off, build the kit for the high hood nose, file the weight down, by hand, and prime the shell for paint.
The yellow stripe is one decal, cut into sections to fit the shell. I still need to weather and put a decoder into it. So, let's see what everyone has been working on;/

Thanks for starting another Great WPF, Jimmy! You sure are becoming a paint and decal expert the 2662 looks great. I don't have such good luck with decal stripes

Jimmy, thanks for starting out, and that GP35 looks good, hard to do a decal like that I did one on the experimental NW GP38AC and it was very difficult.
Bear, good job on that bridge work.
Terry, a very nice shot of your layout and another impressive bridge scene.
South Penn, at least you left ladders for the workers to get in and out.
Ed, I have the old Alco Models version of that engine that I have to paint and decal. Can't wait to see it on my Broadway.
Finished a couple of cars this week:
Branchline 40' 1944 AAR Boxcar kit, added roof hatches at each end of the car, replaced the roofwalk with a Plano Morton style roofwalk, and A-Line Sill Steps in place of the plastic ones. Painted the car with Scalecoat IC Orange and lettered with Dan Kohlbergs decals. Car was built in 1961 and one of 90 modified in 1970 with the roof hatches and roofwalk in for hauling salt, the ICG only expected the cars to last 5 years in that service but 5 cars made it to the 1980 ORER.
Red Caboose Coil Flat painted with Scalecoat II ICG Orange and Black Paint and then lettered with Dan Kohlbergs decals. Car was a new build in 1975.

I did not get much work done on my layout this week, as I was just not in the mood for it.
Just today I made a sign with the layout´s name. I like the British habit of giving a layout a name, makes it somehow more personal. The name I have chosen for my layout is "Engiadina" which means Engadin in the Romash language, a region in the Swiss canton of Graubuenden, home of the Rhaetian Railway, my prototype.
A friend of mine from the Netherlands had sent me some laser-cut letters he bought at a dollar store. I glued them to a small piece of 3mm plywood, painted it in the correct color and highlighted the letters in white color. The sign now looks quite close to the signs used in the early years of the railroad, some of them can still be seen at station buildings.
Not perfect, but as good as I can do it, given the fact, that Parkinson´s Disease is starting to show its effects on my dexterity!
Nice work everyone. I'm also quite impressed with both your modelling and photo skills. I have been very busy with my day job since last fall and have not posted much here these last few months. I have managed to do some things, including the following.
2-6-6-2 Mantua TNVR 4
When I saw Wayne's duplex project, it reminded me that I had a Mantua logger sitting in the drawer waiting for attention. I re-motored it, added DCC sound, added a tender to improve pickup, and gave it a new "home", that is, the lettering of the main RR I am modeling (Thurso and Nation Valley RR). The real TNVR never had a duplex, but mine does! I managed to do the entire project without buying a single part... Everything came from spares, motor, decoder and all...

Over a year ago I rebuilt a Mantua 2-6-6-2. I also added a fuel tender and turned the loco coal bunker into an oil tank. Still have a bit more to do on the engine yet, like a paint job for my railroad. Added all wheel pickup (all 18 wheels, excludes the pony and trailing truck). It'll be plain DC for now. Will add radio control one of these days.
