Last night I watched the 1960s movie "The Cincinnati Kid". The film takes place in Depression era New Orleans. One of the first scenes has Steve McQueen's character running across a moving turntable that is turning two diesel locomotives, then thru a railroad yard where a diesel switch engine is moving along the tracks, and just as McQueen clears the tracks a passenger train roars by headed by Santa Fe F units in red and silver War Bonnet colors.
I'm sure most viewers think nothing about all the diesels in that dramatic and exciting supposed 1930s scene, but has always elicited guffaws from serious railroad fans. Guffaws aside, I liked the movie and I like Steve McQueen and Edward G. But that's Hollywood!
