Hi jsfromrf:

You can do it yourself using Arduino mini computers and SMD LEDs. If the vehicles came with non illuminated clear plastic lights, the cost per vehicle would be somewhere around $10 - $15 each depending on how many vehicles you want to run off of each Arduino and how many LEDs per vehicle.

There have been a few threads on it in the forums here.

Model Railroad Hobbyist has done a series of articles on using Arduinos for model railroading. It is free on-line.
