Arrested for Model RR
Posted by yougottawanta on Friday, September 23, 2016 12:44 PM

Has anyone seen the you tube video of jlwii2000 where he is driving down the road and he gets pulled over. The guy has some tree making material in his front seat and the cop thinks its "pot" and has him step out of the car, then the guy gets handcuffed and then it fads to black and all you can hear is the cop radio?

I am trying to figure out is that a skit or real arrest. I havent been able to find any video follow up on it.

Is there a follow up video ? Was that a skit or real ?

Hope it is a skit that would be really awful thing to happen - arrested for model railroading !

Thanks in advance for your help

A not-skit:

In the early '70's, we had a False Aralia growing in our apartment window.  A cop decided it was "something else" and got a warrant.  Unfortunately, he counted windows wrong and came up with an incorrect apartment number.  So they raided our neighbor, who was a delightful older woman.  They were kinda pushy and rude to her.  She was a bit traumatized.  So she called her brother, who was a judge.

There was a good bit of groveling at her door shortly thereafter.

And, curiously, our False Aralia was left in peace ever after.

Another from the '70s.

A young couple was arrested for selling little bags of green stuff.  They told the undercover officer it was, "Grass," a common contemporary synonym for cannabis.

Upon analysis, the greenery proved to be grass.  Specifically, alfalfa...

The cop on the street doesn't really know what a ground up, green leafy looking substance is until it is field tested and then tested at the crime lab.  While I'm not aware of any cases involving static grass or ground foam, I'm sure it's possible.

I once arrested a young man for possession of cannabis and it turned out to be some other substance.  I was called to a convenience store on a report of shoplifting.  This was back in the day where they often kept display racks of cigarettes on the counter next the cash register.  The clerk on duty had caught one young man pocketing a pack of cigarettes.  She told me his friend may have taken a pack but she didn't know for sure.  I told him that if he took a pack to come clean now and he said he didn't. Then I told him that if he wanted to avoid sitting in the back of my squad car while I looked through the store's security camera video tapes, he could just empty his pockets for me and if he didn't have the cigarettes he'd be free to go.  He signed the consent to search form and emptied his pockets on the counter.  The first thing out his jacket pocket was a baggie containing a ground up, green leafy looking substance.  He smiled and told me it wasn't his.  I asked him who it belonged to and he said; "My friend."  "What's your friend's name?" I asked, "I don't know his name." was the answer.

I hooked both of them up and took them to the station to book. One for retail theft and the other for possession of cannabis.  When I got to the station I got a test kit out and tested the green leafy substance. Nothing, no reaction.  I put a little more into the test kit and ground it up a bit more...again nothing.

So I went back tot he booking room, uncuffed the young man and sent him on his way. I told him that the next time he saw his "friend" that he should tell him that whoever he's buying his dope from is ripping him off.

So yes, It would be possible for someone to get hauled in for possession of cannabis if he took his ground foam and put it in a baggie with a pipe. It would be an inconvenience to be sure, but it could happen.  WHY a model railroader would pack his ground foam around like that is another question altogether...but it could happen.

A number of years ago maybe 24 or so a bunch of friends and I were working on my then new layout getting built in a barn. it was on the second floor of a barn built for the layout. Second floor had no windows and only one rear emergency door. It was late at might and we were painting backdrops doing clouds with stencils and spray paint. So I opened the rear door and used a fan for some ventilation. Evidently one of the local police drove by and saw a light where none had been before. Looked at the barn which is 32 x 80 with cars parked outside but no people and thought Hmm what is going on in there. A short while later while I was upstairs painting clouds one of my friends who was downstairs making puff ball trees called up to me that someone down there wanted to see me. It was the Chief !! He asked what was going on inside the barn. So I took him upstairs to show him the layout under construction. He was amazed and then asked if he could bring his kids over sometime when it was running !!! Now I am known as the guy with the barn with the trains !!! No drug lab just some crazy model railroaders !!----   Ken

If the Chief wants to bring his kids over, I suspect it's "crazy" in a good way.

I recall round 3 years ago the local railfan group was meeting at the small former gas station(dubbed the  yard office) that's located by the NYC(T&OC) station talking and watching videos while sipping coffee or pop between trains..Then one Saturday morning two Bucyrus LEOs arrived to investigate reported "suspicious" activity by a small group of men.

After both LEOs saw there was no mischievousness going on and after  some friendly chat one officer  looked at me and said I thought I recognized that gold color Buick and should have known there was trains involved. Everybody got a laugh out of that.

A word about how a gas station got to the T&OC station area. Our foremost "expert" railroad historian declared it was a old T&OC milk station and should be saved by the local historical society. So,they bought it and had it moved to the T&OC station area..Later it was revealed that it was nothing more then one of Bucyrus early gas stations.
