FREE Model Train Magazines

Gentlemen,

Recently a cousin of mine gave me a large stash of various model train magazines which belonged to his deceased father. Much of his collection dates from the late 1940s and 50s. I would love to give these to someone(s) who can use them and/or swap for Model Railroaders from 1980 through 1983. I'm also open to secondhand copies of Mainline Modeler. If it's a freebie, then let me ask you to pick up the postage.

Here's what I've got:

Right.

LION has many boxes of MR for the past 30 years. Shipping them would cost a fortune. Much cheaper to buy an unlimited ticket (or whatever) to the MR archives.

Probly just have to toss them sooner or later. Our library only holds back editions of magizines for five years.

Your best bet is just throw them away or give them away to somebody local. 

I had thousands of magazines and could not give them away or even recycle them. I just had to dump them along with hundreds of books.

Just a thought, but some model train clubs encourage donations and go about raising funds by selling old issues of model railroading magazines.

Libraries sometimes give away old magazines for free. My local library takes all

forms of media and either gives them away or sells them very reasonably.

My LHS also takes old hobby magazines and gives them away.

And there is always craigslist.

 

Throwing books and magazines in the trash is lazy & foolish. I see no excuse for it.

I just read the editor's column in Hemmings' Classic Car magazine where he

comments on having many books & magazines. He considers this stuff to be

historically important and that he's just saving it for the next guy. That's the

way I feel about as well.

Thank you for making them available, should someone want them, before you toss them out in the recycle bin.

You could also give them to a local club if you have on in your area.  One club near me has a number of old magazines on their table at their annual show.

You're in Knoxville, I see.

If I recall correctly, the Knoxville MRC is located in the Childrens' Museum in Oak Ridge. Perhaps the children who visit the model railroad displays might be interested.

Indeed the Children's Museum in Oak Ridge might be my next best bet. My own children visted over there about two weeks ago and saw the static displays behind glass the Knoxville MRC has put up. The Children's Museum staff also gave my 6 year old boy an iron-on patch. Sadly, that part of the museum is not really hands-on, unless some club members are present. And that's really what kids need for introducing them to the hobby. So if no one off this forum or anywhere else writes to ask for some of the mags, I will contact their group.
