When uploading photo's to the forums, should I constrain proportions?

Best idea on that, if you have the ability, is to use a photo editing program to shrink the photos down using an image size option. It allows you to shrink the actual size down as well as drop the resolution (for web viewing 72 dpi is sufficient). That also shrinks the overall size of the file down in order to save space on whatever server you are using.

LUNCH Time !

Hey all, I think I have FINALLY rid my self of a problem home owner - phew they were/are nuts ! They were so bad I think they had a hand in ruining the marriage of their agent. Awful people !

I have been trading emails with Ulrich - he says hi and that he is okay. I sure do miss his presence here.

Mr B - That is a good deal $5 install.

Frank - I thought they drove the box car into the box car. Why would the hand unload those if they have fork lifts ?

FRRYkid - I would say that is a great vacation ! 4 new pieces of rolling stock !

Douglas - Good to see ya ! Well what "caboose stories " do you have ?

Ken - Some time when I have about two hours I will have to tell you about my $1500 rear break job ! Old cars can be expensive !

Ricky W - Man after about lift two of those 70 lb bags I would be done and in the hospital !

Angel - What is stretching your arm ? The dog ?

Zandoz - Look forward to your design ! Did you get your coffee from Flo that I promised ?

Lion - When I read your post I had a vision of a Lion laying on its back, head to the side ,feet in teh air, tongue hanging out in a drunking stupor. 53 feet of trailer is a LOT of wine. What in the world do you all do with that ?

Howmus - I am with you. I do not like tall ladders or any ladder for that much !

Dave - - Were the RR tours through the NMRA ?

Ed - the photos of the round house without the building hurts my heart ! Oh how sad. Is that an N&W baggage car in that train ?

Garry - Nice photo. I especially like the steam in the setting sun Thumbs Up

CN Charlie - $5 for a caboose is a great buy ! Leaks ! Hopefully none over your model RR !

Zandoz - Look forward to your design ! Did you get your coffee from Flo that I promised ?

Sort of...I had her swap out the coffee for Diet Dr Pepper.  I'm not a coffee drinker.

The layout design is not going to be anything special...just a simple Unitrack double track oval.  not much else I could do and keep the radii large enough for the Super Chief cars and the RDC to squeek through.

Reality...an interesting concept with no successful applications, that should always be accompanied by a "Do not try this at home" warning.

Hundreds of years from now, it will not matter what my bank account was, the sort of house I lived in, or the kind of car I drove...But the world may be different because I did something so bafflingly crazy that my ruins become a tourist attraction.

Welcome Chris.  We are frequently off topic and sometimes suprisingly personal detail, for a bunch of men.

I spent the whole day in bed yesterday.  I slept in the wrong position and my neck hurt pretty bad, plus I had, what I wasn't sure was allergies or a cold.  I had zero energy yesterday.  I'm at about 50% today, the sniffles are gone, and it doesn't look like my neck is going to be killing me for the next 6 weeks.  This is not usual for me. My neck can hurt for weeks or I have a really bad cold for 5 days and then it is gone.

I recently had a converstation with someone who had Herpes meningitis.   She had no idea she was sick but it was obivious to people around her.  That's not what I have/had.

Steve scary meal.  I travel to SC every year and last year I stayed at a little motel in a little town that gave me a list of places to eat.  I ate at Bubba's Barbecue, complete with fiberglass pig in front of the building.

Google blogs seems to have erased my blog, so I have no pics.  Amazning corn fritters and a bunch of other Southern Fried Food that will out right kill you.  It was good.

The railroad track run through the center of each small town.  One year I drove down there and came across a stop sign just before the RR tracks.  Going home at dark thirty I hit this same stop sign and started to roll thru when I remembered there were RR tracks there.  That Gray Ghost CSX engine was about 20' away from my front bumper when I stopped.

YGW:

The 'Muskokian Tour" as it is called is run by the Muskoka Model Railroaders. I'm not sure if the NMRA is directly involved. There more than 20 layouts to visit. A $5.00 admission fee was charged and you could see as many layouts as you wanted for the one fee. All fees went to the Salvation Army Food Bank.

 Evening Diners

Flo, Ed, Chris and I will have a Beer please. Welcome Chris Welcome

Only thing of intrest to talk about is the New Computer Monitor. I finally gave up on the old one, screen was shink in 2" on each side. It was only a maner of time before it went poof! My old TV style monitor was 19 inch. New flat screen is all so 19 inch. Have the say the old 19 inch was way bigger! Guess the older you are the bigger you get! Smile, Wink & Grin

 2 biggest complanits.

1 Sits way to low, well that is a easy fix. Need to raise it by about 6".

2 Every thing looks streached out. I have yet to read the manuel, this was a last minute install. So maybe I can change the aspect raito? There is a CD I have not yet watched.

Guess the real test will be when I go to U-Tube. I am pretty sure there is a setting for wide screen.

Trains are running well and I am beat.

 So later, Ken

 Boy, that looks longer now!

I went to the Barrie - Allandale Railroad Modellers meeting tonight. The evening was spent packing up the portable layout for a show in Brampton this coming weekend.

I have to say that I was very frustrated with my back problems. I helped lift a couple of the modules into their transport cases and that left me in pain, so much so that I had to pass on the usual coffee shop gathering afterwards. My dumb for trying to use my back, but I have a really hard time just standing around watching others do the work.

I will go to the show this weekend to offer whatever help I can, but I'm going to have to take a chair and I can see myself being pretty usless. Very frustrating!Bang HeadAngry

Good morning, Dave.... Where is everybody else?

I'll have a Tim Horton original donut with coffee please. We don't have them in KY, but T H is all over Canada. Coffee

Dave,... Sorry to hear you have back issues. I can relate to that because a drunk driver ht me many years ago.

YGW... Speaking of back issues, how is your doing? Better I hope.

On the layout, I have been running trains recently instead of doing my planned bridge project. Much of my train running is to identify and correct various problems with either the trains or the tracks.

Your old monitor might not have been broken, after all. If your old monitor was shrunk in 2" on each side (black bars on both sides) it's possible that you were just using a resolution of the wrong aspect ratio. You're still using the same wrong setting on the new monitor, the difference is that this time it's stretching that wrong resolution out to fill the whole screen instead of flanking it with empty space. Your new monitor is likely a 16x9 ratio. Download one of our 1600x900 wallpapers from the MR Website and try different resolutions until it looks the right proportion. Good luck!

Anybody want to monitor the LION.

Him has four monitors on the computer of him.

A 24" flat screen LED is the mane monitor. It is flanked by a pair of 22" flat screens, and a square 19" flat screen is off to the right. The small monitor is home to the icons and stuff. My mane project is right in front of me, and I can have two more programs running on either side of it.

Makes work a dream

On my right flank is another monitor. Eight computers are connected to it via a KVM switch. I can pull up any of my servers on that monitor, or can plug in a computer that I am working on. This is a 32" monitor, but it does not have the resolution that the main monitors have.

You can change the aspect ratio and resolution in the monitor aplet on your computer. In Windows 10 click on the Start button select settings and type in the search box "Display settings". On older Windows products, right click on the desktop and select "Screen Resolution".

Good morning all.

Flo, the breakfast special, with scrambled eggs, bacon, breakfast potatoes, wheat toast, and a tall OJ please. Thanks. (EDIT: And yes, I will let Lion buy my breakfast, ala top of the page special from him! Wink)

Weather - Cooler, seasonable weather here. Looking like no more AC will be needed. No, I'm not complaining. 60-70 daytime highs, lows nearing 40-45, is still pretty nice weather.

W**k - Ok, here I might complain a little! Our entire operating system crashed yesterday, with me as MOD (Manager On Duty). Called tech support, only to find many people ahead of me, so it was a widespread issue. Called my DM (District Manager) and got his VM (Voice Mail) as he is out of town/state. My SM (Store Manager) was off, and was busy, so I called a nearby store. She was afraid I was calling about a delivery truck coming, but when she heard my question, she was a bit surpirised, as they didn't have the issue. That was when my SM called me back, and was surprised at how bad the issue was. She suggested I still contact tech support, and wait on hold for a person, as it should not have been as bad as it was. (I could still do cash sales, but that was it. Nothing else, at all, was working, save for company charge cards, but they were excruciatingly slow, and only working until our floor offline limit, which is small. Above that amount? Cash only. No returns, no debit/credit cards, no checks, no company charge payments, no rewards points/bonuses, no senior/military discounts (on senior discount day!) either.... Oh boy.) To top it off, a couple departments are 2-3 trucks behind, so we can not start on the new (Monday) truck until we get caught back up. That leaves our receiving room full, and no place for the next (today's) truck to go. And, those departments need more fixtures built, and the parts? Buried behind the truck! (That's what happens when you get too large of a shipment into my receiving room, somethings get buried behind everything.) Most of it is stacked 10+ feet high, again. (So much for my having it down to 15 crates, Monday evening when I left at 5pm, in a 4X4X6 cube. {4 feet wide and deep, 6 feet high.} And, that made everything accessable as well... oh well.) At least I have the weekend off. (All 3 days too! Someone must have goofed on the schedule! And no, I will not bring that to their attention!)

YGW - Yeah, these weighted crates are starting to get to me. (I may still only be 30, but that is a far different age than when I was 20!)  The weight depends on what is in them, some are extremely light, 20lbs and under, with holiday decorations, but they always seem to be on the bottom of the stack. 50-70lb ones full of blue jeans and boots? Always seem to be the top crate.... 8-10 feet above the ground... Sometimes I really think they do it on purpose at our Distribution Center, just because they know I stand 5'6 high! (Funny story - last light bottom crate? It got flung across the receiving room floor, as every crate above it, all unlabeled, like this one, were of the 50lb+ variety. The bottom one? Maybe 5lbs soaking wet.... I went to move it like the other ones... And was surprised at how light it was, and how not-so aerodynamic a crate is... It held one case of xmas ornaments, a 12 pack... Good thing they were acrylic and not glass! Most of the weight was from the crate itself.)

Trains - Will be in Berea on Saturday for sure, as I have that day off. Will hit up the show, and, if it is not raining, catch some of the 1:1 scale folks at the hotspot nearby, and maybe catch dinner trackside with some friends. (Yep, you need a really big catcher mitt to catch the 1:1 scale ones! Smile, Wink & Grin) Might make a trip to railfan the following Saturday as well, as some friends would like to do that before the weather turns much colder.

Hope all are well, and enjoy the day!

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have the #2 Special today.  Over easy eggs, bacon, homefries, and a double order of sourdough toast to go with the pot of Marrakesh Express Dark Roast organic coffee to keep my R&GV RR Mug filled for a while....

Had a long meeting with other commissioners from the Boy Scout Council last night in Victor, NY (at the Community College Campus).  Large room with poor accoustics so I heard about 10% of what was going on.  I probably should have just stayed home, but was there to make our district look better.  I did pick up some information on the rechartering of units.  Commissioners are very involved with that, especially since it now has to be done online.  Most of the leaders in one of my units are completely computer illiterate so that becomes "fun" to get done....

Must be something about model railoading since so many of us have back problems.....  My back has been very painfull since spending the day working on the stage sound system at camp.  May have to talk to the Doc about getting a back brace.  One of the (younger than me) Volunteers at the museum also has Spinal Stenosis and uses one.  He says it helps him greatly....

Ken and Steve, first thing I thought of from Ken's post was the aspect ratio being off.  On the Mac, (for anyone using that for FYI) you go to /System Preferences/Displays and change the aspect ratio to one that works (of the 20 built in).

Seems I will not be meeting my Granddaughters at the bus this afternoon.  I will be doing that tomorrow instead of working at camp.  We have a little over a week to get the new speakers up and working for the camporee (huge international one that our council puts on every year).  The Saturday night campfire will need to have sound working so the 2,000 or so Scouts attending can hear...

Need to get going on some other stuff!  Catch you all later...

Hello folks!

It's a dreary rainy day here i northern Kentucky.

It looks like it's "What's your monitor" day.  My setup is a 27" connected to both my 17" screen notebook and my desktop, via a KVM switch.

On the layout front, designing a cart and leg system for transport & storage is proving to be quite problematic...but I'm keeping at it.

Hey all

Late Lunch ! Dang Home Owners are running me ragged ! I have one HO ( short for home owner ) whose carpet mysteriously got melted between teh fianl walk and move in (- hhmmm wonder how that happened ? ) in a room with a bunch of lamps with no shades and now they want me to fix it. These folks are from another culture and lets just say their ethics are a bit below ours ! They do not represent their people well.

Oh I forgot to tell you all one exciting thing that happened. I was able to go out to dinner with my father the other night. UNBELIEVABLE ! I am so amazed by how fast he has recovered. He is still using a walker but - hey - he is alive and we can still fellowship this side of glory ! Big Smile

Howmus - I feel your pain - in the back !

Ricky W - I could not do that work now ! In my youth I could. When I was young I looked around and asked myself why there wasnt any old construction guys around. The few that still did it were always in so much pain. I had some common sense then, just a little, and went back to school and got a construction management degree- good thing or I would be homeless now !

Garry - Thanks for asking. The vertebrae is fractured and will take some time to heal. Still really sore BUT I am vertical and not horizontal. That is a good thing !

Dave - When I know I am going to be lifting I take some meds before hand. Cuts down on the pain later Sigh getting old isnt for the weak of heart !

Ken - Now you can watch Ulrichs you tube cannel : )

Henry - How did she not know she had Herpes ?

UP831 !!!!So excited you popped in !!! Big Smile you have been missed ! Have you run any trains lately ? How is your health ??? Everything going well ?

CBT - Welcome Flo - set CBT up with what ever his drink of choice is ! Give me the tab !

Zandoz - Oh well let me buy you another Dr. Pepper ! Man how do you live with out coffee ?

ATSF - I used to own one. Man that thing was a tank. It would go ANYWHERE! Loved that truck !!

Welp gotta git back to w**k

Thank you!   I could use an ice cold DDP right now.  A long day at the hospitalSad

When it comes to doing without coffee, I just never acquired a taste for it...or tea.  Besides, I couldn't afford 2 addictions.  The DDP is costly enough.Laugh

 Afternoon Dinners

Flo, I will have a Beer and give Ed one as well if he makes it in.

Spent a lot of money today! Picked up my car, bill was $792.63. Price went up around $30.00. Bod found I had a bad idler pully as well. The front of the motor was making a small amout of racket and must have been the pully. Car is nice and quite like a Town Car should be. With all the other stuff I bought (no train stuff) I blew though $914.00 today.Tongue Tied

Felt OK today after a nap. Cleaned up some junk from the backyard, cut the front grass, side grass and 3/4 of the back grass. Hauled some wood from Dwights rear yard. My wife thought it was from are old fence so she told Dwight I would haul it out of his backyard. Turns out it was part of the bouder of his old garden. Asked him if was OK for me to get rid of it for him and said I could if I want to. Dwight is 89 and been a friend to Sue and I so I hauled it to my yard to cut up with the rest of the old fence.

Monitor Front Steve and others, the old one was dying. It would start out with a full screen then start shucking in on the sides in a hour glass shape. I do like the old one way better. I wonder if I could even get it fixed?

Good things about the new monitor. Well it does not weight anything to speak of.

 See you all Tursday.

Henry - How did she not know she had Herpes ?

Interesting question.  Her presentation was not neck pain and fever, but personality changes, which she was not aware of or in denial of.

Continuing on with the misery index, on another forum, one friend lost her husband to a sudden heart attack and another with advances breast cancer and blood chemistry abnormalities, had to be put into a medical coma to control her seizures.  She has since emerged, but has memory issues.  Hopefully that is a result of the seizure and drugs and not an indication cancer has spread to her brain.

The Diners have had many personal and family and friend issues this year.  It should remind us all to say we love you to our family and enjoy live while we still can.

Had a District Committee Meeting tonight.  I had no sooner sat down, but an old Scouting Friend (the Guy that shares being Commisioner of the Handicapt Units with me), come in and sits next to me.  Hands me a sign....  License Plate actually:

We all had a good laugh.  Have to figure out how to put it on the PiP.....

Prayers for all in need (and there seems to be quite a few.....).

Morning all

Flo do you have some fresh Krispy Cream donuts from that place they just opened in Manassas ? If so please share them with all in the diner this morning - I will take a half a dozen - Oh thank you that was FAST ! Whoa that is soooo good, just melts in your mouth , hmmmmm so gooooood !! Oh Praise God for Krispy cream donuts ! Oh sorry guys they are so good forgot where I was at there for a minute ! Thought I was in heaven for a second. Those donuts are that good !

Garry - Morning to you also !

ATSF - No I dont but wish I did !

Angel - Man you need to put some brakies on those doggies ! Smile, Wink & Grin

Henry - What ? really ? Herpes causes neck pain ? Fever and personality changes ? What kind of personality changes ! I  agree 1000% with your comment about loved ones. I have expierenced that in my life. I went to bed one night as a teenager and the next morning I woke up and my Mother had died unexpectdly during the night. It haunted me for many years that I did not get to say good by or I love you one last time.

Zandoz - Are you okay ? I feel your pain. Between my kids, job injuries I have spent way to much time in the hospital. Heck they know us by name in the ER !  Sigh Flo set Zandoz up with a case of DRP and put it on my tab I think he need something to lift his spirits.

Gotta git to work
