Posted by MATTHEW JENKINS on Wednesday, June 29, 2016 9:26 AM

Hey guys dont know if anyone else noticed in the email from TrainWorld that they send with coupons in them it had a note saying that there were dealers going out of business be on the lookout for bogus sales. Anyone know who went under ? thanks

First, Trainworld is just trying to convince you to order from them only.

I have had Trainworld damage stuff with utterly incompetent packing (as in throw an Athearn Genesis steam engine into a case meant to hold 4 or more of that item, throw in one little piece of paper, and ship out my multi-hundred dollar item so it could rattle around loose inside the case, which broke the cab roof and other stuff) so I won't buy from them anymore.

Regular brick and mortar dealers are going under all the time...take your pick.

I recommend www.modeltrainstuff.com.

Hi Matthew,

I hadn't heard about this scam. Thanks for the heads up and please let us know what you find out.

As for Trainworld, I 've had really good service with them and surprisingly courteous communications. Along with Toy Train Heaven they're one of my favorites.

No idea if they were referring to this, but Lantz's Trains / Wholesaletrains.com is going out of business effective Sat., July 2.  Apparently, the owners want to retire.

Not heard of "bogus sales" on trains....

Now, other "bogus sales" on the other hand....

Never buy a car, wrist watch (Rolox), ring, or anything else for that matter, from the guy on the corner in a trench coat, no matter how good the price... Whistling

The best shop I order from is Modeltrainstuff.com

Great shipping, JIT inventory, great selection, and great people to deal with. I use nobody else.

It is interesting that their website does not state anything about this.

I have shopped at Lantz's while on a couple of trips, and it was an okay experience. I don't order from them online though, as their shipping minimums tagged me once, even though I was on the phone with them (no mention of minimum). I could have bought more to avoid the charges....left a bad taste.
