New layout ideas
Posted by jlcjrbal on Sunday, December 5, 2004 8:51 PM
I have been searching for a cool layout for my 4X8 bench and I finally came across it today when visiting Stausburg PA. Anyway I want to do a coal theme so my son can get his hands dirty...DO they make any coal cars that have a door on the bottom so the coal can actually come out, also looking for some cool coal house models.. Any help would be great .. Joseph

In a Kalmbach book titled "Ho railroad from start to finish" by Jim Kelly (Model Railroad Handbook NO. 36) there is a complete chapter detailing the installation of an operating gravel dumper. I assume you could use clean, dry coal with this.
The company that makes it is Con-Cor. You get one car with the dumper but other cars are available. Check it out in one of the Walthers catalogs.
