I have some old Bachmann E60CF locos on my projects-to-do shelf. They have that glossy Chessie System paint. Anyone have any experience stripping these old toy Bachmanns? Can I use 91% alcohol or will they need something tougher?
Thanks!
Aaron
Easy-Off over cleaner in the yellow can. Spray well, then place in a sealed container (zip-loc bag works well. Let sit for about an hour. Scrub off with a toothbrush under warm water. Do a final clean with dish soap to remove any remaining residue.

If these are the older Bachmann units the 91% will work very nicely. You will be surprized at just how nice those old castings actually are. I would also reccomend a bath in warm water and dish soap (my personal preference is Dawn).
Let them air dry for at least 4 hours before applying new colour.
Hi Autonerd,
Most Bachmann, AHM-Rivarossi-IHC loco and rolling stock shells produced from the 1970s-90s can be easily paint stripped with 91% alcohol. I've also used 91% alcohol on LL Proto series products.
Here's a thread on a paint stripping job that I performed a few years ago on a couple of Life Like units. I can't get the link to work, so just copy and paste it to your URL bar:

I use on all my shells blake fluid , let them sit in it and take a tooth brush and rub the old paint off , won't hurt the plastic . Works wonders
