New Manufacturer Getting In The Game
Posted by Left Coast Rail on Saturday, November 14, 2015 2:27 PM

It looks like there is a new manufacturer getting in the game.  They are making their debut at Trainfest this weekend and although their initial offerings are limited, it sounds promising.  From the way it sounds, at least some of the movers and shakers in the new venture have some past experience.  Does anyone have any more details?

No details, as this is the first I have heard about this one.

I am interested in their tank car announcement though......

Good to see another company try and make their mark on the industry.  Unfortunately, too modern and too western for my layout.

Their Facebook page has been active since June giving lots of details about who they are and where they are including lots of pictures. One of the four main players is Shane Wilson formerly from Athearn. See this article starting on page 12 ....

Best of luck to them! Can't wait to see their N scale offerings. I love how they have different levels of detail/features for each model, and especially how they embraced the term, "Rivet Counter" :)

Do you mean ScaleTrains?  I read about them late last July/August and at that time they reported they would be announcing their first offerings in November at Train Fest.  Looks like they 've hit the ground running with the UP Turbine, tank car, Evans 50' box car and UP auxilary tenders, all in HO.  They are supposed to announce some N scale products too but haven't seen wha tthey are yet.

James interview Shane in a video he posted here at Atlas Rescue Forum:

[quote user="Metro Red Line"]how they embraced the term, "Rivet Counter"/quote]

On the turbine locomotive it is the difference between the Museum Quality at $900 and the Rivet Counter at $719 both with LokSound decoder or $530 'non-sound'

The tank car seems a good price at $29 each, let's see what the reviews have to say.

LOL loving the "rivet counter" description for some of their models.

I'm definatly getting that UP Water tender for my 844 train! And a few of the tank cars too.

There were indeed healthy crowds at their Trainfest booth today (Saturday) and while I am not qualified to opine on the accuracy of the turbine's tooling and paint, I can at least say that the detail level is impressive and the models are very good looking.  The see through grill work on the top of the UP turbine is very delicate and complex stuff.

Amended post: the tank car models are of the new Trinity ones with the steel half height shields at the ends.  I was wondering who'd be the first to come out with those.

back to kits? ha! very cool. I've been wanting that turbine, I'll get it. Already have the Athearn Veranda. I've been ticked about the Horizon buyout of Athearn. I have not bought any new athearn for quite a while.

I've been ticked about the Horizon buyout of Athearn. I have not bought any new athearn for quite a while.

Whoa, why?  I've increased my purchases since then, but not because of Horizon taking over but because of what has been offered.  You must not be an SP or D&RGW fan, thats all I can say cause the tunnel motors, Genesis GP40-2's, Genesis SP bay window cabooses, Genesis PC&F box cars, RTR Thrall Hi-side gon coal cars, Ortner 5-bay Rapid Discharge hoppers, Berwick 60' box cars... - the list goes on and on.

Athearn under Horizon has products TONS of very nice stuff I find to be "must have's" as a D&RGW and SP fan.  It just boggles my mind that someone could boycott all of that nice stuff?  Surprise  Holy Guacomole!
