Anyone else here going to Trainfest? it's an hour from me, so I'll be commuting (sadly not by rail)

Hope to be there.

It's not in the budget to travel from Virginia all the way to Milwaukee WI - I blew too much savings going to England last year to help my wifes son immigrate. Heck, when I finally can afford a long trip away like that, it's going to be some place nice! =P Been quite a few years since I've been out west, sadly.

I'll be there. Interestingly the Friday before Trainfest is often one of the busiest days of the year for the retail store at Wm K. Walthers. This suggests that plenty of out of town visitors make the trek to Milwaukee. This year there is the added incentive (too late to sign up unfotunately) of Trains Magazine's big 75th anniversary cocktail party and dinner at the Harley Davidson Museum on Saturday night.
We will have having the annual group photo of Forum members and participants at the Kalmbach booth at 12 noon on Saturday. This has been going on for years. All are welcome.

Ya, I'll be there, the wife and I. I have an O scale F.R.E.D. that she wants attached to the back of her hat. I have the FRED, I have the power source, just need to figure out how I'm going to mount it on her hat.
Dave, I'll have to check it Out !

Remember that if you're in town before close of business Friday, you can stop by Kalmbach's offices (at 21027 Crossroads Circle, Waukesha, WI) for a tour of the MR offices and the Milwaukee, Racine & Troy.

I know SoundTraxx will be there! Being close to SoundTraxx I got to walk in the other day and they updated me on them being out of shop for a few days.

I'll be busy volunteering at Trainfest tomorrow (Friday) and then setting up the table for the Wisconsin Division of the National Railway Historical Society (following this year's Trainfest theme of the Chicago & North Western). So this is my last opportunity to bump up this thread and invite anyone reading this to join us for a group photo at the Kalmbach booth at Noon on Saturday
Well I certainly had a great time. I brought my woman along and she enjoyed it too! Of note was Clark Kooning's presentation on scenery. He was really thorough, and quite an entertaining dude to boot! :). We both learned a lot, and I think one of the gifts to my lady this year will be a Woodland Scenics kit so she can get started :). She said to me when we went back to their booth later, "Ive always wanted to build scenes, even before I met you"
on the purchase front, i got some much needed items for the layout (trackbed, ground throws, xuron rail cutters) and locomotives (labelle starter pack, kadee #37 for my GP30)
i also acquired a loco I'd been long wanting for a great price: a brand new Athearn UP F7A/B set
The only down side was the concessions, we both nearly got physically ill from the coffee they were serving. I think I'll pack food next time.
Wish I could have gone but living near Philly, Pa. The trip is just too far for me.

dknelson fieryturbo The only down side was the concessions, we both nearly got physically ill from the coffee they were serving. I think I'll pack food next time. The second building, the so-called Trolley Barn, has a totally different food vendor and much better food than the main building, IMHO. I can't swear as to their coffee but the burgers and brats at the Trolley Barn have it all over the offering in the main building. Other folks get their hand stamped and walk across the street to McD's or a new burger place that is supposed to be very good, and likely cheaper as well. A family restaurant up the street from Trainfest called Johnnie V's is the place where lots of Trainfest insiders go to eat breakfast beforehand and dinner after, and probably a few walk up there for lunch as well. Sorry the food disappointed you but we hope to see you back at future Trainfests. Dave Nelson
I'll keep that in mind for next year. It wasn't a deal breaker or anything, like I said, I otherwise had a great time.
