How do I go about restoring 6 locos to regular DC operation-my b-in-law installed Hornby Zero One modules in them 12-13 years ago. Want to be sure that they are wired correctly as they were originally. Any help &/or suggestions would be appreciated. Doc

9pettails,
I'm not sure what a Hornby Zero One module is, but if this is two-rail, it should be simple enough. The motor has two wires to it. Disconnect them from the module. You may have to replace them - I hope you know how to solder. Each rail carries a different polarity, usually the left rail is considered negative (-) and the right rail is positive (+) when the engine is moving forward. You'll need to connect one wire to the left side of the engine wherever it picks up from the left rail (the module should be connected here) and do the same for the right side pickup. To make sure that you connect the correct side of the motor to the correct rail, use another engine (one that hasn't been modified to the Hornby Zero One) and place it on the track. When it moves forward, leave the direction setting of your throttle alone. Temporarily connect the wires and turn it on. If it goes forward, you got it right. If not, swap over the wires. Solder 'em up, put the shell back on, and do the next one. Shouldn't take you too long.
This does not help you with lighting. There are directional lighting circuits that are simple enough to give you constant intensity, bi-directional lighting, and they only cost a couple of dollars per engine. I think they really make the engine.
Good luck.
