NIGERIAN EMAIL SCAM - HEADS UP EVERYONE !
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, November 24, 2004 10:22 AM
I just received an email sent thru the Kalmbach email system that came from a Dr. Rufai Gidai with the latest version of the infamous "Nigerian Scam". I suspect that I am not the only recipient of this obviously broadcast email.

Read it carefully, and form your own opinions, but it's a rip for sure. Clark Howard may be interested in hearing from you, as this scam is one of his favorites to hate. If you should get this solicitation, I'd suggest that you report it to the proper authority in your state or country that handles such matters. Send that alleged 'Dr'" a real ugly reply, too.

Bill:

While it is tempting to send a reply to the the scam email source, I don't recommend it. Any time you reply to an unsolicited email, you provide the sender with your actual email address.

Scam emails are typically done as domain broadcasts to a group of email accounts so they don't have your actual email address, and it's best you keep it that way.

Best to let the Moderators here know so they can block the source from reusing our email to pu***here trash. Dont reply to the sender or you will risk an internet attack or being Spammed to death.

This one's been around the block SO many times and in SO many variations that it's amazing that people are STILL falling for it! Obviously, If they weren't , the culprits (scammers) wouldn't continue to barage us with them. I'm guessing this scam must be a least 3 years old now.

The old adage still holds true: If something sounds too good to be true...it probably is.

Sad thing is I get this crap on a daily basis! Comes from Nigeria and a host of other Banana Republics.

I just send it to the trashbin and say good bye.

Joe makes a very good point regarding nasty replies. Though tempted I have refrained as I am not sure as to the ramifications.

Yeah, give them your bank account number and watch your money disappear overnight. I can't believe that so many people have been gullible enough to respond to this scam that it's still making the rounds.

Hey guys, I got that email and turned it over to Bergie. Hopefully he will find and remove the account responsible for generating it. However, even if he is successful in removing that account, new ones may still pop up. Mine came from apache2000.

In addition to not responding to them, please report them, as this nonsense is an abuse of the forum

I know some people who, knowing this was a scam, attempted to reverse scam these people. It actually got pretty far before the scammers finally stopped replying. No wonder they think people will fall for that deal, they themselves are pretty ignorant as well.
You'd think if the person's name that responded to you was Mr. Rob Stercraw it might be a clue that it's fake.

Report the spam to the list moderator, but by no means should you reply. The spammers will use your email forever and ever!

There's lots of young folks on this forum, and I'd hate to see them send their Mom & Dad a Christmas card stating that "they took the initiative and sent their parents' bank info (to this emailing scumsucker), and guess what? Mom & Dad, Merry Christmas, you'll be rich next year !!"

Your points about NOT responding at all, no matter how tempting to "express yourself", is very well taken, and right on the money (no pun intended).
