Santa Fe lounge car style train room
Posted by Southwest Chief on Monday, October 5, 2015 4:42 PM

UPDATED (See 11/23/15 post)

Took some pics of the progressing Santa Fe lounge car themed train room.  The bar top and kick plate will be stainless steel...working on that now.

The chairs are actual Budd lounge car chairs.

Our O scale layout is to the left of the first picture.  Currently under cover while the bar is being worked on.

Here's a link to a large image if anyone is interested:

That looks soooo much better than mine... It's tucked into a corner, balanced on some spare shelves.

Yes!  Very, very nice.

As an aside, I'm lucky enough to have a reclining coach seat from an SP car in my trainroom.  This inspires me to try a bit harder to get all the train boxes off of it and actually sit in it once more.

Matt,

Great idea. I like it.

How did you come up with the armchairs?

Thanks all,

Matt,

How did you come up with the armchairs?

After lots and lots of searching, internet and other sources, I found these at a movie prop warehouse in Van Nuys, CA.  They had these for a long time and can't remember exactly how they were obtained.  But the story was they came from a gutted Amtrak car in the early 1970s.

Very Nice,

Makes me want to do a Tip-Top-Tap in my crew lounge... er, I mean Family Room...

Thanks all.  It's been a long term dream that is finally coming true.

Santa Fe lounge car #1396 bar was the inspiration for ours.  Mainly for the center medallion design, what I call a "zia":

The room is so beautiful that I hesitate to say anything at all. My only thought is that some large photos could be set on the right wall, depicting New Mexico scenery, positioned so that they look like windows.
