Is there a way to search the archive without having to scroll through all the issues if I am looking for a particular magazine?

Yes.  At the very top of the screen on this page under Resources is Magazine Index.  You can refine your search to be for Model Railroader only.  That way you can find the month /year / page of the info you seek.  Then in the Digital Archive under browse issues you can select year and month, and once you get there, type in page and you go right there.

Maybe "browse" is not the best description of that feature in the archive as it implies a sort of aimless wandering.  It is more precise than that.

I am not aware of a more thorough search such as you can do in "word" -- the index finds articles but not particular names or words in photo captions or classified ads or photocaptions.

Somewhat more cumbersome, but at times more detailed, are the annual indexes for MR.

Joe may be referring to the iPad app access.  I find that app extremely cumbersome and wait to do my searches on the web/PC version.   Even knowing the issue, scrolling to it in the iPad app is bothersome.  Hopefully, the app will be updated to a scroll wheel issue selector in the future.

Yes, I just wish we had come contact information for the vendor who created that app. Clearly they did not anticipate it being used with a publication with an 80+ year history. If you only had to scroll back 10 years it wouldnt be so bad. What it needs is a high level sort where you cna tap on a decade, and then scroll through the issues to get to the one you want. It takes some 200+ swipes to get back to the 40's/50's the way it is. Prime example of how NOT to design a tablet app.
