I can imagine that painting all of those hand rails could get a bit tiresome. I can feel the tension in your neck muscles!
I am waiting for the custom decals as well as the window glazing to arrive for the McKeen car so I haven't been able to do too much. I did get rid of the hideously brightly coloured clothing. Here are the passengers in their new garb:
I have been in touch with Madison Kirkman who is heading up the restoration of the oldest McKeen car still in existence. It was originally called the 'Cuyamaca Motor Car' and it just so happens that the F & C model is a copy of the same platform (there were numerous variations on the McKeen design). He had taken the time to read through my thread on the model project and offered some good advice regarding some of the details such as the number and placement of roof vents. He was also kind enough to supply a colour chart for the exterior and interior of the car. According to his chart I managed to get most of the colours pretty close!

Bear, just painting handrails on a locomotive is a chore, but it will look great when you get done.
Dave, super detailing job on the McKeen car.

I managed to get some work done this week:
Kadee PS 2003 CF Covered Hopper, (a great detailed kit by the way) painted with Scalecoat II MofW Gray and lettered with Microscale Decals.
Eastern Car Works Enterprise Covered Hopper kit, used by the NYC and subsidiaries. This is the 6th kit of this car I have done, 4 NYC and 2 P&E. This time I used a Plano Roofwalk in place of the kit supplied one, added air lines where needed and replaced the cast on sill steps with A-Line sill steps. Car was painted with Scalecoat II MofW Gray and lettered with Mark Vaughn Decals.
While at the club open house last weekend took a few more shots of my PRR Ore Train powered by detailed Stewart C-628 & C-630 with 36 Stewart/Bowser G39 ore cars.

Bear ... The entire model looks like tedius work to me. Also, looks like it will be good enough for a museum some day.
Dave ... Paining figures can also be tedius. They look good seated in the McKeen motor car.
Mike L .... Your beautiful layout certainly has a lot of sctivity. I hope your railroad pays its dispatchers accordingly.

Thanks Dave, Today's point and shoot digital cameras make photo taking much more rewarding and fun, even for an ol' ham-hander like me. Seems that nowadays a great deal of my modeling is done with an eye for the camera, while a good thing for improving skills and enhancing scenes it also has the bog-down potential.

Well this weeks WPF submission is a bit of a bummer. I had to tear down the layout over the last few weekends. I am moving to the Seattle Area in the next few months.
Here is the last part of the layout to come down.
This double helix is 9 and half turns. It is actually 3 nested helices. There are also 4 loops around the outside of it. It took 6 months to build.
On the plus side of all this I can take what I learned in this layout and apply it to the next one. I definitely learned many things on this layout and will continue to improve as I progress.

That helix system is wild! Too bad it has to come down, but as you said, your experience will make building the next one easier.

Do you really have to dismantle it? It is big, but to a moving company, it could be just another piece of furnature. If you plan another double decker in your new home, talk to your mover before you rip it apart. I moved an entire 4x8 layout, cut into 2 pieces with the legs removed, home from Saudi Arabia when I retired.

Thats part of the problem is that I have no idea of what space I will be moving into as of yet. I am still working on that. I am seriously considering a nolix on the next layout depending on space.

I realize that I'm a week late, but I was still trying to figure out how to upload the photo. Last weekend I finished my first engine in a while. This is going to be my primary passenger engine for the GTW passenger train. I know GTW never owned any of these, but that is one of the things that make is special.
I realize that it still needs hand rails. I am working on four GTW engines right now, so I'll paint them all at once. Just haven't gotten to that yet.
Just got last details on this scratch built 'speed shop'. Still needs 'planting' on layout and lighting added. The '32 coupe is a Jordan kit. I had a Merc just like the model back in the day.
