Building hedges
Posted by mhdishere on Saturday, March 30, 2002 1:16 PM
Does anyone have a suggestion for making HO scale hedges? I seem to recall an article in MR a few years back about making them using bristles from a cheap paint brush and ground foam, but I can't find it in the online index.
Any other ideas?
Thanks!

I haven't tried this yet but I was thinking of cutting up a 3M scrubbing pad into the appropriate shape and then applying the ground foam.

Depends whether it's an evergreen hedge [like shaped cedar], or a deciduous [like privet]..in my humble opinion, if you get more than 60 feet from a real hedge, you can't really make out the mostly 1/4" limbs too well, so when I do one, I don't go with bristles or scouring pads, just a few small copper wires to support it, and a combination of Woodland Scenics 'Foliage Clumps' and 'Foliage'...regards/Mike

Woodland Scenics poly-fiber foliage works great. Just cut and stretch it to the desired size and shape, glue it in place, add a little ground foam for desired color and texture, and spray with matte medium dillute or white glue dillute. Looks great.

Check out Woodland Scenics foliage clusters and Woodland Scenics clump foliage which are made from ground foam. They`re not organic so no dry out or crumble. Avalable in six colors and foliage pieces can be broken up to make bushes and hedges. Can be used to camouflage problem areas such as building bases and seams. Jerry

I tried to make hedges of the privet type cutting up one of those rotary floor polihing disks. After I had cut out the desied shape, I then sprayed with adhesive and sprikled on some scenic ground fowm. Worked fine.
