Not sure if someone has already noted this on the forum . . . Germany has Miniatur Wunderland, the U.S. has Northlandz and the Great Train Story, and now Canada is getting Our Home and Miniature Land in Toronto. Quite nice, but it takes a lot to match up with Miniatur Wunderland. Quite a few have tried here in Germany, but without success. IMHO, even the toughest competitor, Loxx in Berlin, is a far cry from MiWuLa.

I've been wondering if such a project exists in Canada with the intent as an educauonal / tourist attraction. And close to home as well. I was in touch with Jean-Louis yesterday and have been invited to discuss the possibility of volunteering with this construction.

I think you can offer much more positive praise than that for the efforts these folks are putting into this project! It sounds like you are being dismissive.
Dave, I think it will be interesting to see where they are at, twenty or thirty years from now. It's apples and oranges comparing the two at this point in time, however they are off to a good start!
Our friends South of the border had to import a lot of talented Germans to get into space and finish the development of the A-Bomb. Maybe we should bring some talented Germans over to help us with our version of Wunderland.

Miniatur Wunderland is so much more than a well made, huge layout - it´s a show, entertaining people. The Braune brothers, owners and initiators of MiWuLa, have a background in the show biz. They used to run a very successful discotheque in the not so well reputed entertainment district of Hamburg...
Not meaning to offend, but I stand by what I said. The OP's post was about Canada's new 'My Home and Miniature Land'. Yes, MiWuLa is definately the best model train exhibit in the world, but that's not what the thread was about. IMHO your praise was faint at best. These people have already put $2 million into the project and their goal is a total investment of $10 million. That deserves a little more than "quite nice" don't you think?

Dave - I am not attempting to justify my comment, but as the OP made the comparison with MiWuLa already in the title, that´s what I felt looking at the pictures. It´s a well done layout, much better than I can ever do it, but, from what I have seen, it lacks the pizzaz MiWuLa has.
MiWuLa has a wealth of little details, which you need to experience yourself. It starts with the cars having their indicator lights working when they turn into another street, or showing the brake lights when stopping. It continues with the extreme level of detail of every little scene and the subtle animation of scenes. There is so much to see that I have not yet discovered all of it, although I have been there 5 or 6 times now.
