As I have sometimes mentioned, the big old highway bridges near here are being replaced. They just started building the one over the lake next to us. The one on the other lake was started over year ago, and they have been fabricating steel framework in recent months. .... We will be crossing the older ones today to get to Murray. ..... The lakes are man-made. Kentucky Lake is the Tennessee River. Barkley Lake is the Cumberland River.
I worked more on my layout construction yesterday. Hope to do more thise weekend.

Another nice day. It's going to get warmer, but perhaps not as bad as I had feared. There's a light breeze. I think my bike ride will be fun and pleasant.
No coffee at home. Mrs. Beasley neglected to mention that she'd used the last of it. I was going to buy more yesterday anyway, but they didn't have larger bags of the stuff I like, so I figured I could wait another day. Oh, well, a trip to the bagel shop appears to be in order.
She's doing fine after the tooth extraction, just a dull ache which is to be expected.
Poor Dave. Alzheimer's is not a sudden-onset problem, though, so it's unlikely to be his problem. Actually, it sound somewhat like the way I felt when I was taking Metformin for my Type 2 diabetes last year. The drug did not agree with me, and I became tired and listless and I lost my mental edge. The stuff I'm on now is much better for me. Dave needs the whole high-tech medical thing though, including a CAT scan. I'd like to think it's just a bad side-effect from medication, but I suspect he's had a stroke or perhaps he's got a brain tumor.

a hot one out today with the breeze it feels nice though. This darn tooth ache is annoying me to say the least, i see the dentistst Tuesday. I don't want to wish the weekend away but do want to get this taken care of. Might do a little work on the layout later on While taking in a couple cold beers. I don't drink but every once in a while I get a craving for a cold beer, might help with the tooth ache pain too,lol
be back later on, they are calling for storms tonight too. Which is good because we need some rain here. my lawn is turning yellow already

I'm taking a break from varinishing oak boards... Need to get away from the fumes down there for a few minutes. I do have the spray booth turned on removing the worst of it. I just finished the second coat on tghe first 5 boards and will put the first coat on 5 more before I take a lunch break. Trouble is I run out of places to set the finished boards so I can do more.
It's currently 81°F here in the Finger Lakes Region with a high later of 87°. Muggy as all get out as well. We can expect thunderboomers later this afternoon. I turned on the dehumidifier down cellar to help the drying process for the Polyurethane.
I hope to get over to the garden store and buy my transplants early this afternoon (before the weather gets too nasty). I can keep them here for a few days before I get them in the ground. Won't get much more done in the raised beds today...

I guess this is the place to kvetch, since that's what I do when I get together with my friends at a diner. No need to open a new thread for a minor rant.Recieved the July 2015 issue of Model Railroader today and read it a bit during lunch. Cody Grivno did the "Step by Step" feature, this issue concerning the building of a Jordan Horse and Wagon kit. No complains there except....He detailed the harnesses on the horses in the kit. The strap that comes down along the horse's hip, called the 'loin strap' according to this, ends right midway at the thigh. It is supposed to attach to another strap, but Cody just added a chrome paint dot to indicate a rivet of sorts. So...the loin strap is just riveted to the horse's thigh? Since it's unlikely the horses are devotees of 1990s East Village Fetish fashions, this just pops out as a fail.The author of the main article "Model horses and Wagons", Don Ball, does this too in a few of his articles images, althoughit looks as if he had cemented the traces to the loin strap rivet but they later came loose (or at least he meant to cement them).
Well, I feel like someone riveted the straps to my legs today. I did 2 1/2 hours on the mountain bike, almost all flat but still 2 1/2 hours. It was mostly rail-trails, perhaps the best thing if you can't have trains running anymore.
Down the Billerica and Bedford to the depot, then out the Reformatory Branch towards Concord. After a mile or so of road, I picked up the Battle Road trail, part of the old route of the Minutemen back in 1775. It was my first time on this trail, and I must say they've done a fine job of laying out a path in the Metrowest section of Boston that avoids roads and evidence of the 21st century very well.
On my way back, I stopped into the old Depot building, because I needed a snack (no, I wanted an ice cream) before the last short leg of my ride. Inside, they have a small HO scale model railroad. Some kids were looking at it, so when I found myself with a quarter in change after buying my ice cream, I slipped it into the slot to run the trains. The kids were excited enough to leave the ice cream freezer for a while and watch the display in action.

Mr B This not a sudden event with Dave lossing it. When I was hired 1.8 years ago I was told Dave need help with his paper work and getting thing organized. At the time he was forgetting to do needed paper work and bank deposit where a little hit and miss. I was told when he first came back to te company 6 years ago he seemed fine, then started the slide. When I first meet Dave, I was not impressed in any way.
As far as the the new Med's, he was just as out of it before he started taking them. We close at 8:00 PM, our arlam company keeps a log that is mailed in once's a month. He was in the store one night till 1:30 AM? When asked about it, he had no idea why he was there that late?
My self, I think it is either Alzheimer's or something related. I went through this with my father inlaw God Rest His Soul. I see most of the same things that happened to Eddie.
Remember yesterday when I posted Dave wife told Ronda on the phone that he was just sitting in a chair staring off into spaces and asked Ronda what should she do? Ronda said "Call 911"!
His wife did nothing, he is still at home? She called me today and told me she is taking him to the hospital Monday and he would not be in today or Sunday. By the time to figuer out what is wrong with him, he will have the IQ of a egg plant.

We have had, and will be getting agian shortly, a line of strong thunderstorms here in the Finger Lakes. About 7PM it was crackling pretty good outside, the wind was howling and the water was coming down in buckets. Going to nail us again about 2AM they say. I won't be able to sleep through it as the cats will be waking me up for reassurance. Blackie is still hiding under the chair in the living room from the first storm..... LOL (Actually, he is sitting on the floor right next to me.)
I got a lot of the oak finished today. Waiting on getting an email from the contractor to be sure I am to stain all the rest of wood except the very thin pieces that were milled to make some of the molding. There is a stack of 1 x 6 oak that I want to be sure is not extra wood..... It is going to look great!
Ken, it does sound like Dave has some form of dementia. His wife may have contacted the doctor and was told just to bring him in on Monday. Really not much they can do for him over the weekend...... My guess is she is well aware of the problem, poor thing. Tough thing to deal with.... When I went downtown to the old hardware store yesterday, the owner, Vince, saw me come in and yelled, Hey Ray! Gosh, I haven't seen you in years! I told him I was in about 2 months ago. He looked at me funny, and said, guess I must have been out back or sumpthin'. I told him, you waited on me. His son who is taking over the store gave me the, Yep, this is the way it is now look...... His father couldn't find the polyurethane I was looking for either. It was right on the first shelf at the end of the aisle. He had to get his son who walked right over and picked it up. Not a fun thing.... The old guy has to be in his late 80s or early 90s though. He is also getting very frail. I was pleased he knew who I was........

Blackhawks won their Series against the Ducks. Now, it's on to Tampa for the cup. I'm not really a fan, but it would be kind of neat to see them do it again. That would be 3 times in 6 years. MOH likes the Hawks. I suppose a little of it rubs off on me.

I know it is a dry heat (about 10-15% humidity during the hotest part of the day), but I once heard a great reply to the comment, "But it's a dry heat;" "So is my oven, but I wouldn't want to live in there either." Don't get me wrong, there are few places I would rather live, but the summers can be a bear. One of the consequences of the heat is my daily bike rides move to the early mornings. Because we don't observe daylight savings time, it is light enough to ride by 5:00am. At that time, the temperature is still in the low to mid 70's.

I presently live west of Washington DC in northern Virginia and let me tell you, 85-90 degree's is not comfortable when the humidity is 80% or higher, so yes, the dryness really does make a difference, but mainly below 100!

The reason is that California does not have enought refiery capacity for its own needs, and they cannot use out of state (normal) gasoline because it does not meet California EPA standareds.
OK, ewe din't say it, but there is no such hesitation on the part of the LION. The EPA needs to be tamed and stripped of its regulation and enforcement authority.
Let them STUDY the environment and then make RECOMENDATIONS to state regulatory authorities who have the ability to see beyond the tips of their own agnedas.

LION runs airconditoner in office of him when outside temperatures get above 30 grees fairy height. When above 70 it is the LION simply melts and looks for an air conditioned place. Yup, summer in North Dakota can be a real bear, it even gets up into the 80s sometimes, and HUMID too.

Dark, wet, gloomy, and cold here in the Finger Lakes Region of NYS this morning. I slept through the thunderboomers last night exceopt for one time when Blackie jumped up on the bed about the time the room lit up whereupon he took off like a shot to find a better hiding place! We got about 2/3rds of an inch of rain yesterday and they are calling for a little over an inch today. Droughts over!
I will be doing more staining and varnishing today. Should do some house cleaning before my son arrives, I think.

Yes, we finally got a forecast of 3 days of rain, so I broke out the seed spreader, picked up a big bag of Scotts and let the lawn have it. I hope the wet weather lasts long enough to get a good start on germination, and then I'll be able to keep it going with the lawn sprinklers.
It's intermittent showers right now, so I'm going to take advantage of this brief break to take the mountain bike out. Yeah, I'll probably get wet, but that's part of the mystique of mountain biking. I'll put my phone in a plastic bag.

Well, I got my bike ride in, and I got wet. When I got out about as far as I wanted, I noticed it was getting colder and windy, so I turned back. I made the right call, as the skies opened up about 5 minutes after I got home. Since the trail was already wet and my bike does not have fenders, I had a mud streak down my back from shoulder to saddle.
I met up with a guy on his bike who was new to the area, so I showed him the way to the bagel shop for something to eat, and along the way gave him a bit of a history lesson on the Billerica and Bedford RR.

Far as Dave, I all so think his wife knows the turth and is playing dumb, if she is she is doing a darn good job of it! For what little time Dave is putting in, 9 hours last week and 15 hours this week it does not seem worth covering up the truth.

I just completed weathering six hopper cars. I looked at the photo Ken posted a few days ago to see the inside of empty coal hoppers in an effort to get the cweathering to look right.
