"One difference between pessimists and optimists is that while pessimists are more often right, optimists have far more fun."
Bear!
That is going to be spectacular! Actually, it already is! Glad you were able to get some modelling time in.
I have made a little progress on my rail truck. Its actually been sitting for a while but over the past couple of nights I have managed to add some grab irons and running boards. I also took about a 1/2 inch off the back of the box so it doesn't look like its going to fall on its bum anymore. Here is the first incarnation of the box:
Here is the revised version:
The odd shaped grabs are copied from Rio Grande's Goose #2 as are the running boards with the curved support bars. Making those reminded me of just how shakey my hands are getting I realized today that the prototype #2 had a gravity feed fuel tank. OH well, I had already epoxied the twin tanks to the frame so they are there to stay. We'll just have to call it updated technology.
I really hope that Loksound comes out with their promised Galloping Goose sound decoder sometime soon.
Looking forward to seeing what everybody has to show this weekend.
Dave
I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!
ive been ballasting and zip texturing my mine interchange tracks, going to add a layer of black for the leaky hoppers.
jabear: your model is looking awsome.
hon30critter: the railcar is coming along nice. cant wait to see the progress on that one.

I did several projects this week, and here ys the first. Former rdg hopper from bowser redone into another Wheeling hopper.
(My Model Railroad, My Rules)
These are the opinions of an under 35 , from the east end of, and modeling, the same section of the Wheeling and Lake Erie railway. As well as a freelanced road (Austinville and Dynamite City railroad).
Nice pictures so far. Here's an older one from me.
Thanks for starting things off again this weekend Bear. Your ferry is going to be spectacular. Thanks for sharing the process, it has been inspiring.
I've been toying with the idea of an abandoned scale house near the grain elevator. Had to shrink it some because of space limitations. Here is the second or third iteration. Still working out the scale house location and additional landscaping.
Keep the photos and ideas coming guys. Thanks to you WPF is always the best thread of the week.
Remember its your railroad

Bear.... Your carferry model looks outstanding.
Dave ... I like your "goose".
ggooler ... your balast job looks very good.
Jimmy .... You did a great job applying decals on the W&LE hopper.
Corey ... I like the C&NW F3's.
Allan .... That's a very nice scale house.
Below is my C&S 700D. It is an F9Am. The origanal 700D was an F7A demoplished in a head-on collision, and the F9Am was manufactured by EMD with parts salvaged from the F7.

Nice job on the F9, Garry. An RS3 leads a short freight across Hammer Creek.
Wow, great stuff everyone. I got my track laid but I would not consider my trackwork "really good stuff" so instead I'll post this. The kids are excited to finally be able to run trains again. The bedtime routine now consists of bath, jammies, teeth, and a short ops session from his signal tower perch.
Bear,
The ferry is starting to look very shipshape
And nice work on that modification, Dave, that really helps the proportions
And a bunch more great work here, too.
The B&B gang has been busy up at Crater Lake, so let's hop on the local and go see...
Passing Summit.
Arriving at the new station in Crater Lake.
Across from the station, a new water tank rises up, although it's still waiting on its spout and some other details. Oh yeah, and a foundation.
And if anyone has been wondering how all those planes stay in the air over the layout, despite the apparent lack of an airport, now there's proof of what's going on...

Some really great pictures here already today.
My big layout is all torn down now and the renovation has started on the building. So, it's lots of bench projects and tinkering on modules for a few months. I have finished the first of a series of projects that I am calling "Locomotives the Bangor & Aroostook never had". I have several pieces of power that I just like but, the BAR never ran that I am going to put into livery as if they had.
Here is an overview of the modules that I am building to keep me busy until the layout building is renovated.
Off to a great start this week.
Bear, your car float looks awesome.
Dave, your rail truck is turning out nicely.
Ggoogler, you're making great progress.
Jimmy, Your hopper is turning out great.
Corey, Cool shot.
Allan, I like the abandoned scale house.
Garry, Nice F Units.
Grampy, Nice Shot.
Carnegie, Your layout is off to a great start and by the look of things, so are your kids.
Mike, Awesome narrow gauge stuff as always.
Hobbez, cool switcher.
Last week, I had the guys over to run trains. It wasn't a true operating session but it was fun despite Murphy and his stupid law showing up. Ihad a lot of forign power on the layout.

Congratulation Bear for the ferry.
Nice work for this WPF from everybody; I like the goose but also all these ongoing projects.
Just to show you two more pieces of my high lift coal dumper puzzle in Nscale
These are the twins bracket which hold the pulleys assembly on the pan.
The small cabin which I still need to build is just underneath.
I build the twins last sunday, they were quiet difficult to accomplish and I adjusted them in the week.
I put a shot of the plan for reference.
I've started working on some interior details for the barbershop on my 1/24th scale In-ko-pah Railroad, beginning with a scratchbuilt barber's chair:
Inspiring photos from everyone as usual. Thanks, Bear, for coordinating this fun weekly event. Hope everyone enjoys the weekend.
Here is some roadwork occurring this week on the modest size layout.

Nothing new here......eccept for the new power drill.
I had seen this on Facebook and decided to get one.......put it together last night......runs on 2 AA batteries and does a better job at drilling multiple small holes then what a Dremel can do.

Great pic's and project's going on guy's......really good stuff!
Just a few from me....still plugging along on multiple project's going on at same time....so all shots are just set up temporarily. On going rail/truck terminal has all the inside lights in, started working on outside. I'm hoping they will mask some of the light bleed through I have, if not I'll have to do some painting on the inside with silver paint, that works just as good as black. Easy to do, buildings are removable, foundations and all, to work on at bench. I'm test fitting the rough brick that will be there. Finding out they all have to be squared first, they just won't match otherwise. They are Plastruct sheets. Some new trucks were built....waiting on decals. They are GMC 860 1958/62 Era. and they are modified so they roll with K&S brass tube, rod,c-channels for frame an A-line wheels/tires. The exhaust stack is brass tube, scracth built. Trailers are Ulrich with CMW landing gear. That have Chooch steel coils, sitting on scracth built skids, with Northeastern stripwood. They are the type that lay down, not the type You may have seen on edge, being hauled by truck. Also just put a couple loaded spine cars on two storage tracks just for the heck of it.
Take Care All,and Great work!

Sorry for the triple pic's......don't have a clue why that happened. Maybe a stuck key!
Take Care!
Frank, nice work - that office scene is terrific.
Mike
I'll second Mike's opinion on the office scene.
Mike & Dave,
Thanks for Your kind words. I must have dropped that guy 10 times, before I got Him CA'ed in that chair. LOL. The other office has a man & woman in it.....but I learned to glue them in the chair first, made it a lot easier. Those pic's were rushed, when I get more time, I'll do a better job, hopefully! You can't see it in the pic', but there is a bill of lading typed up in the typewriter.....that was fun to put in.
BTW: Dave You did a fantastic job on that Goose. Isn't putting on those little details fun????
I made a sand loading facility out of scraps
the box is leftover bass wood stained
The tower is made from old water tower feet. The tank is the center to an adding machine paper roll the top of the tank is a dremel wheel along with some railing and diamond plate for a floor and a cage ladder. The tubing is heat shrink and a coat hanger. The filler hose is a piece of wire insulation pulled off the wire
"> " target=""> " target=""> Still not sure how they got the sand up into the tower but I'm betting after drying it they blew it up into the tower Maybe i should build a drying shed

Frank and others:
Thank you for your comments on the goose. Much appreciated.
Frank - I do enjoy the results, if not the process so much. I'm actually getting fairly good at making things like the grab irons. Even the running boards came together without too much fuss despite somewhat shakey hands.
I'm still not totally happy with the roof shape. It looks too much like a European wagon. Last night I filed off the overhang and it is better, but I'm still considering replacing it. My problem is that I put a bunch of lead wheel weights inside the box and they stick up a bit above the the tops of the walls. I have already spent some tip whittling the top weight down. If I can carve away some more without damaging the walls then I will be able to install a flatter roof. Trouble is, the existing roof fits perfectly, if I do say so myself, so making another one that fits snugly and will stay in place without glue will be a challenge.
I contacted Tonys to ask if they have a release date for the Loksound Galloping Goose sound file but they don't know when it will be out. I need the Loksound Select Micro. Everything else is too big to fit in the box along with the sugar cube speakers and the Loksound Keep Alive.
Sorry for blithering on.
First time I have contributed on the weekend photo thread. He is the Walthers Grocery Distribtor building I finally finished. Still needs scenery around it.

Welcome to the thread!
That is a really nice job on the building. Great addition to your layout with all the traffic it will generate.
