Afternoon diners,  A  cup of red rose tea and a piece of cherry pie for lunch, please.

Special kudos for Galaxy for all his efforts for fund raising for Ulrich's glasses and prayers for his speedy recovery from surgery.

For one, I am ready for spring.  SE Ohio had a theesome weather warning this morning, flooding potential, winter weather advisory and freezing rain warning.  Enough, already!

Getting ready to clean up my router table to mill up a bunch of homesote for roadbed.  My dog hates it when I crank up the power tools.  She heads to the second floor to hide whenever I go to the basement to work on the layout.

Garry - what I missed as Howmus mentioned earlier is the new locations each month.

Galaxy - I think Paul is asking how one post a new subject with in the diner with hitting reply on someone elses post. Dont worry the surgery will go fine.

NP2626 - Welcome and dont get to hung on on the diner being trackside or on rail ( although it does get relocated every month to some new location ) this post is more about friendship, sometimes venting our frustration about family or friends, helping each other etc...Hope you decide to become a regular.

Frank - What ship did you model in the 20 gallon fish tank ? Do you have any pictures ? Did you every do any large scale sailing vessels like the USS Constitution ?

Paul - Hello do you have any photos of your layout ?

Welp big test today on site. We are trying for our 4 hour test of the sanitary pump station. If all goes well then we can apply with the state to start pumping sewage. With this we cannot get any RUPS ( Residiantial use permits ) No RUPs no settlements, no settlements, no jobs. So far all is going well.

Prayers to thise in need and a special prayer for Galaxy and his surgery. We ask that the surgeons hands be guided and steadied and that all goes well and for a quick recovery.

Galaxy, I will assume the surgery will go well and you will recover as quickly and comfortably as possible.  So, I will instead add my wishes for the secondary things to make the whole process more tolerable.

1. Pretty nurses.  No explanation needed.

2. Decent food.  Of all the miseries of my shoulder surgery, the one that stands out was the dreadful mac and cheese.  I ordered that because I figured it was impossible to mess up, but I was wrong.

3. Good meds.  They gave me something at bedtime that was completely ineffective, and they wouldn't give me anything else for 8 hours.

It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.

Hello Railfans! Top of the morning to ya. Flo - my usual please. And if anyone sees Ken, hand him a JSTL spiked  Beer .....  im sure he could use it.

Just wanted to stop in and say howdy to everyone. Let ya know i havent entirely dropped of the planet yet. Things still not going well in the family. Not unexpected though, as with problems associated with elderly parents.

For my two cents worth, in the small amount of time i have been here, I have always imagined this forum being a "Diner" car. Stuck in the middle of an all heavyweight Pullman consist.

Giving us the ability to travel at will to different parts of the country, and as in this month, the world. Here we are in Germany. Somewhere I have always wanted to visit. So i look forward to the informative posts of our friend Ulrich just like Gary gave us about our recent stint in Chicago. I just hope the rail gauge is the same over there as here! lol

So dont bust my bubble!  Laugh

Douglas

PS: I like the grand poobah idea. Nice way to add a twist to things and keep them from getting mundane. BTW, is there a secret handshake to go with it? Laugh

YGW,

It was a sailing ship.....but in the 100gal. high boy fish tank, way too big for a 20gal. tank. Had the Military dio's. in them. The ship was 30'' long and 25'' high, 6'' shorter than the USS Constitution of the same scale. It had a wider beam than the Constitution. It is a Revell kit, (1/72 scale, I said 1/87 in my post) 16th Century 44gun Elizabethan English Man o' War Galleon, with sails, nightmare rigging and figures. All hand painted with Humbrol paints, about 20 different colors, those ships were very colorful in their time, that's one reason why I chose it.....to see if I could do it, mainly. From my success I graduated to wood ships for awhile. All this time I was still in Model Railroading, but I liked to do other models also. I was very good at hand painting details and still am, after I recovered from my stroke, I had in 2006, which messed up my balance and shaky hands, took 3yrs of therapy though.

The ship I still have, packed in my garage. I bought it and started on it in 1974, completed it in 1980, when I moved here. I do have pic's of it......the trouble is finding them.....I am or was the person that say's I will alway's remember where....yeah! good luck!

A pic' of some War Games figures I built and painted for one of my Son's. They are in between 1/48 and 1/64, made in the UK.

Italian Roast coffee in a Undecorated mug, please.

***Frank, neat stuff. I have always thought model ships are cool and I used to have a decent collection of vintage toy soldiers, from many eras. CoolThumbs Up

Heat is back on. The metal box with the two fuses, next to the inside blower unit with plastic pullout; "the pull out was melted shut". He told me those are no longer used and is going to be back in about a week to replace it with the new replacement model that doesn't used those slow old fuses. Anyway, he wired it to run in the meantime and assured me it was safe to do so, because the blower unit has its own fuse.

Tested out a new loco, a Rivarossi Heisler that I found for a good price. Neat sounds, although some seem a bit loud. Will look into reprogramming volume levels (if able to do so) at a later date. Will also have to paint over the railroad name it came with, to put my own on it. Cool addition to the future logging operation.

Cheers! Cowboy Rob

Whistling

Afternoon Gang,

Chloe, When you get a minute, the Ol' Boy here would like a Dr.P and an order of fries. Thanks.

Still in the minus 30s here today with the wind chill. I wanted to get the snow off of my Dutch gables as they are completely full you can only see the peak of the roof behind them.  But will wait for a couple of days for it to get milder as I am not going to work out in this today.

FRANK, I love the painting job on the mailitary figs. also your trucks.   Thumbs Up Thumbs Up        And how do we get to see the ones you are having published ?

RobLet us know what came in the postal parcel today... I always love postal packages as it is alot like getting a present. Most always good stuff.    Gift

Galaxy, A big thankyou from here as well for your efforts in getting help for Ulrich and formerly Jeff. It takes time and energies to do these things and I want you to know I recognize that.    Bow  and our prayers for a quick and normal recovery from the medical issues.

We are doing some house cleaning today as we have a couple of days of dinners parties here this  week, as my Son's MIL & FIL are in town and also our Grandson's Birthday.  He will be three, and believe me, he is a real train nut.

YGW, Good luck with those tests today, and glad to hear you are going to get back to the layout soon.

Welcome To the Diner, to all those who have just checked in and those who are still just peeking through the windows.  Come on in and enjoy the company and fellowship.

Train wise, I have been doing alot of soldering lately on an area that was just set up temporarly for a time, but is now more permanent other than the two bridges will have to come out at some point for another water feature pour. Also put in an interchange track that will eventually be partially hidden and so I had the thought that it might be a good spot to park the work train and Big Boom as well. We shall see as time goes on. It took a little work because it was going to put two turnouts on an elevation change so I had to cut that crossover in about three feet sooner. But I like it and it looks alot better...

I have a few days off right now and sure appreciate not having to go out early these cold mornings. Then there are four more days of work then back to Saskatoon for another treatment on my Esophagus. Boy, it sure seems that the weeks fly by.  and the good news is that I am able to swallow small amounts of liquid occasionally that previously didn't happen. So I am really excited about that and gratful to this Lady Thorasic Surgeon who is doing the treatments with me, although I am out like a light while she is doing them.

All for now, so keep smiling,,, it looks good on ya' all.   Smile, Wink & Grin

 Evening Dinners

Flo a JSTL and a Beer please, and give the Buick guy a brew as well.

Just have not felt like posting. Bad day's at this point is just plain lack of income. Last Friday Sue had to have a tooth pulled that was not plained for. It was my only no bill check for the month and it should have been saved toward the House Payment. It cost me $175.00 that I could not afford to spend.

I think I told you folks they cut the hours at work? My gross lost was $160.00 a month, not much unless you have my lack of income.

Douglas I hate to say it, but there is noway I can afford the computer at this point.

***Ken, sorry to hear that.

Well, it is "wintery mix" tinkling on the rooftop..coating everyting in ICE.

It will be NASTY driving at 5am to the hospital!

BTW for teh next 2 weeks, if my typing improves, either i am doing it one handed, and will tell you so, or MOH is typing for me! So "mums the word" from now on!

YGW good luck with sewage detail

Johnboy; good luck and great success swallerin' them liquids! Thanks for the acolades!

KEn: maybe time for another job? It is too bad so many jobs are so marginal now on income. Maybe peopel who don't have moeny can't buy mattresses either...get a job in a restaurant or grocery store..PEOPLE ALWAYS NEED FOOD! WOn't pay much, but hey if you work the hours there that they cut you, you'll make out fine> MOH has two jobs! One is grocery store cashier. Helps pay the bills and was about 25% of MOH's income last year! {both jobs still at/below poverty though} and my meager income from disabilty is eaten up entrely on stupid medical bills and is getting worse...PLUS we pay out of MOH's income to!

If suregy WASN"T Tomorrow, I'd MAYBE be starting a Ken fund,, but I think peeps are taxed out helping Ulrich get his glasses!

Thanks to everyoen who sent checks this week monday,NONE have arrived yet, naturally.

THis Saturday, for those who DO, change clocks, it will become Spring ahead time... so set your clocks AHEAD one hour...before goign to bed...10PM becomes 11PM..

.

Well, I have to shower, swab my shoulder with a washcloth of antiseptic, and head to bed officially as we have to get up EARLY. Clip my fingrnails etc, as i won;t be able to for about 2 weeks.

Boy I wish that tinkling would turn to snow sooner than later...it WILL be warm tormorrow...36F!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can you belive it? A day ABOVE freezing for once!!!

At least I don't have to worry about bundling up!

Here's a "cottage" in Indiana for thsoe of us who frequent heere: cheap too!

http://tinyhouselistings.com/privately-owned/?utm_source=New+Properties&utm_campaign=c2dff48e94-RSS_EMAIL_CAMPAIGN+%28New+Tiny+House+Listings%29&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_548c403727-c2dff48e94-291709113

It is a caboose cottage with well house {depot}...

"1968 Sooline Railroad Caboose on 4.3 wooded acres near Bloomfield, IN. The rail car sits on track next to a detached building resembling a depot. The approx. length is 33 ft. and width 9 ft. It was remodeled with care to protect the authenticity so it feels and looks like a caboose"

rest easy,

Evenin' folks!

Janie, just a cup of decaf for me right now.  I'm going to be sitting in the front booth watching the mainline traffic tonight...

If the weather guessers are correct it will be above freezing in just a few minutes.  We got the same crap that Galaxy got to the South of me.  Interestingly the temp will actually rise overnight and will stay above freezing until 6PM tomorrow.  High may get all the way up to 38°F.  I will have to get out and clean the driveway tomorrow morning which got a bunch of heavy wet blowing sn*w today.

I spent much of the day cleaning and putting stuff away.  I have an old friend from my teaching days, a science teacher at the high school and middle school during the time I was at the Middle School, coming over to see the trains.  Hadn't seen the guy in several years before he was one of the people at the Methodist Church who tried to get a Cub Scout Pack up and running.  I ended up on the committee as well.  This guy is a fine gentleman and I was privileged to teach both of his kids in the Middle School.  He has a farm outside of Geneva and he used to do everything with a double team of work horses.  He rents out his farm land now and has put up both wind and solar in the property.  (Yes we get along very well!)  He is also starting to get into model railroading and wants to see what I do with the Fast Tracks jigs...

Then late afternoon the Insurance adjuster will be showing up.  About the time he leaves I am supposed to be 10 miles away over at Waterloo High School for Boy Scout Roundtable and the Commissioners meeting.  I doubt I will make that meeting.  Supposed to be an important one as the District Commissioner will be introducing and training us on the new Commissioner's Tools program.  I'll work out a time to sit down with him where he can get me up to speed on that later if I can't get over for the meeting.

Galaxy, Good luck with the surgery tomorrow!  Hope the roads are passable and everything goes according to plan!  Will be keeping you in  my thoughts and prayers!  Nice "Cottage" BTW!  A bit pricey for me though.  I guess I'll just repair the dump where I live...

Later!

Chamomile tea, please.

***Galaxy, that is a neat "cottage". Have always wanted a caboose (or any passenger car), attached to the house. If not for a train room, then as a Diner. How cool would that be! Will be sending you healing thoughts tomorrow.

***Ray, that is great about your teacher friend. Did he have model trains as a kid?

***C.N. Charlie, what is the largest radius Unitrack you have on your layout? I'm curious, what is your largest loco that you run on it?

Cheers! Cowboy Rob

Johnboy,

I will more than likely be posting some of them on WPF this coming weekend, they are related to the Walther's Transload kit bash that I am working on.....which is really taking shape.

I don't know if I'll make the front page of the publication in June...but my guess is, I will. If Your interested here's a link. It is a quarterly publication started by people who were in the fallen flag's trucking industry who have HO scale layouts, but have a love for trucks also....like me:

http://www.ppw-aline.com/modelfreightways.htm

I would also like to thank all the other's who commented and Thank Them for their kind words. I just thank God I waas able to recover after my stroke, so I could continue to do the things I enjoy for the rest of my life.

Take Care, All! Big Smile

Good evening Diners,

Flo, nothing right now.

Galaxy:  may you have a very successful procedure tomorrow.  We'll keep you in our prayers, and if YOH fills in, we'll welcome her as we do for everyone.  No worries!

Just wanted to stop in and wish you well.

i hope everyone is OK, safe, and warm.

Good Morning,

A frosty -36C here with the windchill at the current hour. I've just about had enough of this stuff and luckily temps above freezing are predicted for Monday. It could be just the usual weatherman's idea of a joke but who knows.

Well I guess Galaxy's surgery is done now and sure hope he has a speedy reovery.

Yesterday I actually ran the N scale layout for a bit. I gave my GP9 a good run and it seems to be settling down after a disassembly and re-lube. I thought it would be hard to do switching in N but find that the couplers are easy to do with a Rix uncoupler pick. In fact I think they are easier than HO which I admit sounds strange.

Hope everyone has a good day.  Sure do miss some of the people who used to stop by the Diner but I guess times change and some tire of a routine.

Good Afternoon!

Galaxy´s surgery must be over by now. I do hope he is doing well and is not suffering from too much pain! Prayers for a speedy and thorough recovery!

Looking at today´s weather, I must be reminded that this is early mArch! We had everything from hail to snow to rain, sunny spells and even a thunderstorm. Sound more like April! For the weekend, our weather guessers predict temperatures up into the mid 50´s F - most unusual for this time of the year.

My eyes tire easily these days, so I keep computer time down to a few moments each day. Still too many days until the new glasses arrive. Will I be happy when they arrive!

Blessings to all!

Best wishes, Galaxy.  Been there, had that done to me, and I'm better for it.

Ray, I located an old friend on Facebook this week, or perhaps it's better to say he located me.  This is a guy I haven't seen since summer vacations from college.  He joined the Air Force, and had the class ranking from flight school to select whatever plane he wanted.  This was during the Vietnam War, and his classmates were going for hot fighter jets, but he chose....tankers?  It was a very smart move, as all tankers were based stateside, and he got his big plane, multi-engine rating.  I just found out he spent his civilian career flying for FedEx.  He was my train friend since middle school.

It is (drum roll, please) 41 degrees out.  We won't see that again until next week, and tomorrow night will be near zero, but, well, it's nice for a change.

For once, USPS 2-day mail is getting here in 2 days.  "Out for delivery," it says.  I ordered some infrared photo-transistors from Digikey for my grade crossing signal project.  The visible light ones supplied with the circuit work fine, but not at night, and they really seem to work best embedded between the rails, so I can't mount them horizontally to cover multiple tracks.  So, this will be an experiment.

Galaxy, welcome back.  Are you in the hospital, or have you been released?  They kept me over one night.  I couldn't wait to get out.

Once I got out of my contraption after a month, I was still in a sling.  For computer work, I did all my typing with my good left hand, while reserving the right for small mouse movements.

ok, NOW the real pain sets in,

They gave me 5 shots in the recovery room as I was in intense pain.

Now, on jus the "home meds" The real pain returns. I DO have scripts for teh 'good stuff" adn the ""ok stuff", but the good stuff isn't quite doing it. I took some OK stuff that is usally a help to joint pain, so maybe hat will help?

Triend twice to sleep...but the first time jsut after I drifte d  off the darn FIl called "do you wnat to update your GPS"?,,,,not a word abuot the surgery. MOH told him where to put it, for now, anyway!

THe second time my shoudler/arm started to pain me.

Mr> B>: No, fully ambulatory! In and out, just like Errol Flynn!

Thanks for the support.

well, we ahve a guest coming the train nut friend...so nobody important, haha.

I forgot to put the darn roast in the slow cooker this AM so it'd be doen fo tonight, darn it!. THAT was supposed to be dinner for the 3 of us, all else is 2 serving "Heat N eat bags or boxed" as MOH can't really/doesn't wnat to cook. WHy not>? I am the "professional chef" {at one time} retaurant cook here in htis household. I cna't stand someone else in "my Kitchen"! I lawasys serve home cookin' or gourmet meals ala restaurant style served on platters here, NEVER "family style" or served out of  apot or pan {UgH!}

I will have to suffer and allow MOH the liesure of cookign for me. Fortuatnely I eat European style left-handedly, so It's not a problem, but cutting things up may be.

Remember: I am NTO responisible for anything I may say or do today! LOL

Geeked

EDIT: I got top,

After long and careful thought, they have convinced me. I have come to the conclusion that they are right. The aliens did it.

Afternoon/evening folks.

Chloe, I'll have a big bowl of beef stew with dumplings, a cup of decaf coffee, and a slice of the apple pie for dessert tonight.  I'll be in the booth at the end of the car chatting with Garry.

Did anyone recognize one of my favorite puns in my earlier post ? (forth not fourth)... Oh never mind.

Yep, I saw it earlier but didn't get a chance to come in the diner and groan!

Been a very busy day here today.  Clearing out my driveway was a real pain as there was a layer of ice on top of the sn*w that had blown in.  I still need to clear out the mailbox area....  Had an old friend show up to look over the layout.  He  and I spent about 3 hours talking about how to do certain projects.  He is going the Fast Tracks route and hand laying his track.  He will have a small HO layout in the house done to Freemo standard so he can load it up and take it to play with other guys...  Also will have G Scale outdoors as well.

He no sooner left and the doorbell rang (and rang, and rang....  the doorbell sticks outside.) and it was the Insurance adjuster.  He asked a bunch of questions, did a lot of measuring, and took 20 or so photos.  He says it will easily go well over the deductable.  I should get a hefty check from the Insurance company to help with the rebuild after all is done.

Galaxy, glad the surgery went well!  Hope you have a easy and uneventful recovery.  I assume you are home?

Ah...  My Beef Stew is here, so I will catch you all later!
