Athearn HO Challenger Warranty
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, November 12, 2004 4:25 AM
Courtesy of MR E.Mail.
Athearn announced that due to an oversight no warranty cards were packed with the
new HO Challenger.
There is a warranty document on it's web site.
http://www.athearn.com/newsletter/challenger_warranty.pdf
Print the form, fill it out & return to Athearn to validate their warranty

Thanks for running that down, Chuck. After all the discussion in the last week or so about the sound, it suddenly dawned on me that I didn't have a warranty card with mine either, after you had mentioned it earlier. Did you ever get your siderod back together? When we unpacked mine at the LHS, the screw holding the pilot truck had fallen out along with the spring and insulating washer. Fortunately, all of the parts were still in the box, and the fix was an easy one.

This small side rod is mounted with a rivet instead of a replacementscrew so it's being returned to www.firsthobby.com who has been working with Athearn for a replacement. In addition
under firsthobby defect policy they will pay me for the return shipping.

First hobby also determined officially that the MRC is the source for the decorder but the sound system is an Athearn propriety system developed just for the Challenger.
Firsthobby also told me that Athearn will re-run the ATHG9122 version with the second production run becoming available sometime in the first half of 2005.

Exceptional service for my first on line order(optional) with a brick & mortar store.

Hopefully, they will be able to honour their warranty on this loco. Unlike with the 4-6-2 and the 2-8-2, both of which suffer from cracked drive gears and for which Athearn have no spare parts in stock and no deleivery date as to when, or if, spare parts will become available.
