Athearn says recommended radius is 26'
Has anyone tried it on lesser radius ? My layout is 24' which I though is big
enough for almost everything.

I run them on 22" radius curves around the walls of my home office. If I remember correctly (?) Athearn included a longer span bolster to use between the cars for tight curves. I believe this is what I used. They run pretty well but the rubber bellows between the sections snags on occasion. It doesn't happen enough to be a big concern though.

I think the recommendation is just so it will look better. In theory, autoracks should be more demanding than the automax because at least the automax is articulated. I would think in terms of recommended radius, the automax would be like running 2 Walthers centerbeams.
