MR Page Count

I certainly agree about the composition of advertisers in RMC vs MR. I've already made reference to it -- but I know for a fact that the higher-end or more specialized producers advertise in RMC rather than MR (and of course this applies to Mainline Modeler and RMJ to some extent, too) because, even though the circulation of RMC is lower, the more serious modelers buy both RMC and MR, so if you advertise in RMC, you are automatically going to reach the serious ones without paying for MR's circulation, made up in part of guys who would never buy a high-end product.

But as they say in the insurance industry, "good business is business that persists". RMC, despite its overall tone of earnest mediocrity, has at least targeted business that persists -- its advertisers are keeping the page count even, bad times or good. MR, let's face it, keeps wanting to get more business from the guys who wear their John Deere hats indoors. These are not the guys who are interested in brass, or urethane kits, or even DCC. This is not business that persists. This is a flaw in Kalmbach's business judgment, it seems to me.
